Nuclear Design Engineer
Lusby, MD (Remote)
Compensation: $55 - $125 per hour
Long-term contract
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client, the largest private sector power producer in the world, is seeking a Nuclear Design Engineer for a long-term remote contract. This role supports the design, construction, and operation of a world-class nuclear fleet, performing advanced technical and engineering problem-solving to ensure safe and efficient plant operations. You will act as a resource and technical expert to engineers, making critical technical decisions and providing subject matter expertise. The position requires detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes and regulations, strong technical leadership, and the ability to support both routine and emergency plant activities. You will be responsible for developing and implementing engineering analyses and programs, resolving equipment and system issues, leading engineering initiatives, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Develop, manage, and implement engineering analysis, activities, and programs for nuclear plant operations
  • Provide in-depth technical expertise and consultation through direct involvement and as a subject matter expert to identify and resolve equipment and system problems
  • Directly fulfill engineering and technical leadership accountability regarding short-term and long-term programs that impact site operations
  • Apply engineering principles to assigned tasks, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work
  • Ensure proper configuration management and adherence to standard design criteria, practices, procedures, and codes in preparation of plans and specifications
  • Conduct independent research, reviews, studies, and analyses in support of technical projects and programs
  • Recommend equipment, new concepts, and techniques to improve performance, simplify construction, reduce costs, correct design or material flaws, or comply with changes in codes or regulations
  • Perform other job assignments and duties as directed by management or pursuant to company policy, including but not limited to emergency response, departmental coverage, call outs, and support of outage activities in positions outside the department
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Nuclear)
  • 2+ years (Midlevel) or 5+ years (Senior) of nuclear or related engineering experience
  • Ability to maintain minimum or unescorted access requirements and pass medical examination/testing as required
  • Professional Engineer Registration (preferred)
  • Experience in design and modification of turbines, motors, pumps, heaters, transformers, generators, etc. (preferred)
  • Open to Mechanical, Electrical, Civil/Structural, and I&C Engineers
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes, regulations, and engineering standards
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and ability to provide subject matter consultation
  • Experience with configuration management and preparation of engineering plans/specifications
  • Ability to perform independent research, reviews, and technical analyses
