Target Salary Range*: $80,000 - $85,000.

Position Overview:

As a Business Analyst, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to help solve company challenges. You will be responsible for understanding the current state of system functionality and assessing the needs of stakeholders including our external business partners, contributing to solution designs, and documenting the requirements needed to achieve desired business outcomes. You will operate in an agile, collaborative environment that values your insight, encourages you to take on new responsibility, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation. Additionally, this role will seek to bridge the needs and requirements of business partners with the technical solutions of the delivery team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Contributing member of the product services group, understanding key business objectives for their assigned line of business and providing support to product and underwriting leadership in meeting those objectives.
  • Facilitating communication between business stakeholders, external partners and our internal technical team.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Markel’s APIs and become proficient in API analysis with our external partners.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, business stakeholders, and technical team members to understand business objectives, identify and shape potential solutions, and document requirements
  • Develop test scenarios and test cases for use in system and integration testing
  • Conduct ad-hoc data analysis as requested by team members and/or business stakeholders to assist in requirements gathering or defect resolution
  • Provide functional design, clarifications, and other details on user stories to help the development teams build a quality product
  • Review acceptance criteria for user stories, ensure that they meet the Definition of Ready and are always kept current.
  • Develop test scenarios and test cases for use in system and integration testing
  • Conduct ad-hoc data analysis as requested by team members and/or business stakeholders to assist in requirements gathering or defect resolution
  • Triage root cause of defects impeding application functionality
  • Help test software solutions as needed
  • Assist in the development of technical documentation and training materials
  • Consult with stakeholders, providing expertise on current system features and capabilities and informing approaches to achieve the desired business outcomes.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst in an insurance or insurance-related business
  • 2+ years’ experience working with APIs in a professional setting
  • Strong working knowledge of underwriting and/or insurance related systems
  • Prior experience working within agile software development environment
  • Experience working with business partners and vendors including their software developers to understand existing and define new API capabilities and integrations.

Skills:

  • Solid understanding of API lifecycles and the importance of and strategies for managing contract change over time.
  • An appreciation of how API capabilities need to fit into larger value chains and function coherently in conjunction with the company’s portals, partners’ applications, and third-party services.
  • Firm understanding of the relationships among API contracts, specification documents, and sample Request/Response payloads as well as ability to interpret, analyze for consistency/accuracy, and produce these artifacts.
  • Strong working knowledge of insurance underwriting systems a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify, resolve issues with minimal guidance
  • Strong verbal skills with a demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical matters to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
