Job Summary

DeBra-Kuempel is seeking an energetic Building Automation System (BAS) engineering candidate with control experience and an HVAC background. The successful candidate would join our growing automation design team, supporting projects in the commercial and industrial markets.

The BAS Hardware engineer fills a critical role in the company, designing the systems architecture, setting the installation plan and pace at the beginning of a project. Candidate would possess or develop skill designing automatic temperature control and energy management systems, which includes producing control schematics, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, programming and bill of material lists based upon customer needs and/or project plans and specifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend project turnover meetings with the sales and project team.
  • Design building automation systems and create project submittals/shop drawings using construction plans and specifications.
  • Identify any gaps or ambiguity in the project and submit RFIs as required.
  • Establish & maintain unique customer standards in design/build and plan/spec markets
  • With experience, mentor new employees and assist in their growth
  • Write control sequences and coordinate design intent with programmer.
  • Provide operational and technical support/direction to field operations and subcontractors
  • Obtain field markups and revise the shop drawings with any changes for owner records.
  • Maintain backups of all project documentation including record drawings on construction management software program.
  • Develop strong relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Engineering Manager / Project Manager with recommendation for resolution.
  • Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed. 
  • <10% local travel may be required to customer site visits and progress meetings.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in related engineering/technology field required, bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • In lieu of engineering/technical degree, a combination of verifiable DDC specific training and two or more years of experience will be considered.
  • DDC or PLC design experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of low voltage electrical wiring.
  • Experience in engineering, design, or installation/service of HVAC systems
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of commercial electrical, HVAC, and control theory.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel). Advanced experience with spreadsheets a plus.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Visio and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.
  • Familiarity with building architecture and computer networks.
  • Familiarity with third party equipment integration over protocols such as BACnet/Modbus.
  • Programming experience is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate integrity, honesty, professionalism, and commitment to company values.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have excellent organizational, communication, strategic, technical, analytical, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must have high standards of quality with attention to detail.
