Job description

Senior Controls Engineer
Location: Plant Vogtle, Waynesboro, GA
Contract- 3 Years
Client- Southern Nuclear.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Controls Engineer to lead and execute control system design activities for critical plant projects. The ideal candidate will serve as both the Responsible Design Engineer (RDE) and Responsible Lead Engineer, managing technical scope, leading interface coordination, and ensuring project execution aligns with engineering standards, safety requirements, and operational needs.


Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Responsible Design Engineer (RDE) and Responsible Lead Engineer for assigned design changes

  • Provide technical oversight and review of design products and documentation

  • Lead coordination and serve as the primary point of contact between:

    • Multi-discipline engineering teams

    • Vendors and contractors

    • Key stakeholders and plant personnel

  • Conduct on-site field walk-downs to validate design requirements

  • Support and participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)

  • Support development of scopes of work, estimates, and project schedules

  • Review and validate wiring diagrams, control logic, and cable routing

  • Develop and maintain I/O lists, control narratives, and design documentation

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and engineering quality requirements

  • Assist engineering, construction, and field personnel during installation and startup phases


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred or related discipline) โ€“ ABET-accredited

  • 10+ years of controls engineering design experience in industrial or power environments

  • Strong understanding of electrical and control systems design principles

  • Hands-on field experience checking cables, wiring, and instrumentation installations


Preferred Experience
  • Prior nuclear power design engineering experience strongly preferred

  • Experience working in regulated environments (NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, etc.)

  • Prior experience as RDE/Lead Engineer for design modifications in a plant environment


Technical Skills & Expertise
  • Control narrative development

  • I/O list creation and management

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and control drawings

  • Field wiring and cable tracing knowledge

  • Cost estimating and scoping experience

  • Familiarity with FAT/SAT processes
