Job description

Senior Controls Engineer

We're seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer with a strong background in Siemens TIA Portal and Allen Bradley PLC programming to lead automation initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on engineering position where you'll own projects from concept through commissioning while driving reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement across production.

What You'll Do

  • Program, troubleshoot, and optimize Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs and HMI systems.
  • Design, develop, and modify electrical control systems for manufacturing equipment.
  • Lead machine upgrades, automation improvements, and new equipment commissioning.
  • Diagnose complex machine control issues and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Design electrical control panels and field wiring systems from concept through implementation.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software.
  • Integrate motors, VFDs, drives, sensors, relays, safety devices, and industrial networks into complete control systems.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, technicians, and leadership to improve uptime, throughput, and product quality.
  • Provide technical leadership during automation projects and mentor less experienced engineers and technicians.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Strong experience programming Allen Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix (Studio 5000).
  • Experience developing PLC and HMI applications from the ground upโ€”not just troubleshooting existing code.
  • Strong understanding of industrial controls, AC/DC electrical systems, drives, motors, instrumentation, and field devices.
  • Experience with electrical hardware design, control panels, and field wiring.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP and Profinet.
  • Proficiency creating and interpreting electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated leadership through project ownership, mentoring, or leading cross-functional initiatives.

Preferred Experience

  • Manufacturing automation and process improvement.
  • Equipment commissioning and startup.
  • Continuous improvement or capital project execution.
  • Wire and cable manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
  • PMP certification is a plus.

Why This Opportunity?

You'll have the opportunity to own automation projects, influence manufacturing performance, and work on challenging control system improvements from design through startup. If you're looking for a position where your technical expertise directly impacts production, reliability, and future automation initiatives, we'd like to speak with you.
