Job description

Duties

Chemical engineer support the Mechanical Project Design group at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. This position will be providing process design support to Lithium Processing Facility Project at the Plant. Chemical engineering project support includes participation in designs ranging from scope definition, feasibility and conceptual studies, and preliminary/detailed designs. Tasks include flowsheet development (block diagrams, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs), analyses and calculations, reports/studies and Process Descriptions preparation.

Education

Requires a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited university plus a minimum of 10 years of progressive professional experience including process design of complex nuclear or chemical facilities.

Level 3 – BA/BS Degree plus 10-14 years of direct experience required, or an MA or MS with 10-13 years of experience.

Level 4 - BA/BS Degree plus 15-20 years of direct experience required, or an MA or MS with 14-18 years of experience.

Level 5 - BA/BS Degree plus 20 years of direct experience required, or an MA or MS with 19 years of experience.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Light to moderate lifting may be required for packages and other items, ability to walk short distances, may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.

Due to government and/or federal regulations for this position, proof of U.S. citizenship is required.
