Job description
Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Employees receive benefits provided by the University System of Georgia, including, but not limited to, medical and major medical insurance, group life insurance, participation in the Georgia Teachers' Retirement System, Optional Retirement Plan (Faculty and exempt employees only), Social Security and Tuition Assistance Program after six months of employment.
Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
The Budget Office Business Partner is a professional exempt position that requires considerable working knowledge of University accounting practices and assistance in the budgetary control functions in the Office of Budgets and Contracts in the Division of Fiscal Affairs. Duties include assisting the director with the Athletics budget functions to include budget planning, preparing the university's budget, approving departmental purchases, prepare financial reports and analysis for management and ensure compliance with university's policies and procedures. This position reports directly to the Budget Director.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all university budgeted positions for Athletics to ensure proper assignment of employees in the division.
- Assist and support the development of the university's annual budget.
- Assist with monthly and quarterly budget amendments.
- Assist with the preparation of Five-Year Business Plans for USG.
- Assist in monitoring/preparing report for Athletics Sponsored Programs.
- Review and approve requisitions, ePro transactions, and Purchase Card activity, ensuring the availability of expendable funds for delegated fund sources.
- Monitor financial performance by analyzing results, tracking variances, identifying trends, and recommending corrective actions to the Budget Director.
- Prepare projections to support long-term and strategic decision-making.
- Develop recommendations and innovative solutions through data analysis, comparative evaluations, and assessment of proposed changes.
- Serve as a budget liaison between budget central administration and campus departments/budget managers, i.e. Athletics.
- Provide guidance to departmental budget managers, staff and coaches in the Department of Athletics on effective fiscal management, while promoting accountability, sound financial stewardship, and efficient business practices.
- Assist the Athletic Director with the preparation of required NCAA financial reporting, including the NCAA Financial Reporting System (FRS), Agreed-Upon Procedures (AUP), Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) Report, and other assigned financial reports.
- Participate in professional development workshops and training to remain current on best practices; evaluate internal budget policies and processes and implement revisions aligned with the university framework.
- Evaluate internal fiscal needs and develop, implement, and maintain an efficient, effective budget model for Athletics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor''s degree with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or other related area.
Three to five years of successful experience in Business, Finance or Budgeting.
A combination of education and experience will be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Prior experience in Higher Education.
Demonstrated knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge of higher education financial systems and issues; People Soft Financials and OneUSG.
