Job Title: Entry Level Biomedical Engineer (Pre-Operative Planning)

Job Description

Serves as a highly proficient, quality-focused producer of pre-operative surgical plans for robotically assisted total hip and total knee replacements. This role centers on creating and reviewing 3D anatomical bone models from CT scans, building accurate pre-operative plans, and ensuring all work meets strict clinical and procedural standards. The specialist works within a proprietary case management system, follows detailed work instructions, and contributes directly to surgical accuracy and patient outcomes by delivering precise, consistent digital plans.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage surgical cases using a proprietary case management system, ensuring all required information is complete and accurate.
  • Review CT scans for conformity to established surgical protocols and identify any issues that may impact pre-operative planning.
  • Segment CT scans using specialized software to generate detailed 3D anatomical bone models for use in robotic surgery.
  • Develop pre-operative surgical plans using the previously created digital bone models for robotically assisted total hip and total knee replacement procedures.
  • Review CT segmentations and surgical plans to verify the accuracy of anatomical landmark selection, implant sizing, and implant positioning.
  • Upload completed pre-operative plans to field-based personnel in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Document all activities and case-related actions according to prescribed methods, procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Follow written work instructions exactly to deliver consistent, repeatable, and high-quality output.
  • Apply efficient work methods to meet individual, team, and departmental production targets in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and field-based stakeholders to support high-quality surgical planning and customer satisfaction.

Essential Skills

  • BS degree in Biomedical Engineering or 2 years of professional experience in lieu of degree
  • Ability to review and interpret CT scans for conformity to surgical protocols.
  • Experience using specialized software tools to segment CT scans and create 3D anatomical bone models.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for documentation and communication.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality focus when creating and reviewing pre-operative surgical plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures exactly.
  • Demonstrated efficient work methods and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation, with a focus on supporting internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with colleagues and field-based personnel.
  • Proficiency in English for speaking and reading to support documentation and communication requirements.
  • Ability to view and distinguish between a variety of colors on a computer screen.
  • Visual acuity of 20/20 vision with or without the aid of an assistive device, such as prescription glasses or contact lenses.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role based at a designated facility, with three total positions available on the first shift to support anticipated growth. The position is not remote and requires daily presence at the site. Core working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a strong possibility of overtime to meet growing demand; during peak periods, workweeks exceeding 55 hours may occasionally occur. The work involves extensive use of computers, specialized segmentation software, and a proprietary case management system, as well as regular interaction with digital medical imaging such as CT scans. The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, emphasizing accuracy, consistency, and adherence to detailed work instructions. Team members work in a professional clinical-technical setting, collaborating with colleagues and field-based personnel while maintaining a high level of concentration and visual focus on screen-based tasks.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
