Job description

Description of the job functions the contractor will be expected to perform.
  1. Design, build, and maintain Azure-based data pipelines using Synapse Analytics to support MSIS and related education systems.
  2. Develop and optimize ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and validate K-12 education data from multiple source systems.
  3. Implement and manage data models, views, and performance tuning in Azure SQL and Synapse environments.
  4. Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline and performance issues.
  5. Document data flows, transformations, and technical standards.
  6. Collaborate with analysts, reporting teams, and vendors to deliver timely, accurate data for federal and state reporting.

Required Skills/Experience.
Provide the minimum required skills and/or experience the contractor must possess to qualify for this position. These requirements will be transferred to the Score Sheet and candidates without these requirements reflected on their resume will NOT be presented to the manager for consideration.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the following:
  1. Advanced development and orchestration of data pipelines using Azure Data Factory/Synapse or similar cloud based platforms. (pipelines, triggers, integration runtimes, parameterization).
  2. Data warehousing and analytics engineering using Azure Synapse Analytics or similar cloud based platforms (dedicated and serverless SQL pools).
  3. Strong T-SQL skills, including query optimization, indexing strategies, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
  4. Implementation of ETL/ELT frameworks, including incremental loads, CDC patterns, and error handling.
  5. Integration of structured and semi-structured data (CSV, JSON, XML) from APIs, SFTP, and vendor systems.
  6. Source control and deployment practices using Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

Preferred/Not Required:
Provide any skills/experience that would be helpful for the candidate to possess but not required. Examples: Previous supervisory experience, WebLogic experience helpful, etc.
  1. Experience with student information management systems and K-12 data and reporting
  2. Experience with Common Education Data Standards (CEDS)
  3. Azure Data Engineer Associate certification
