Utilizing robust accounting software and establishing clear communication channels across departments can significantly improve efficiency and reduce errors.

Job description

Join our team at Core One! Our mission is to be at the forefront of devising analytical, operational and technical solutions to our Nation's most complex national security challenges. In order to achieve our mission, Core One values people first! We are committed to recruiting, nurturing, and retaining top talent! We offer a competitive total compensation package that sets us apart from our competition. Core One is a team-oriented, dynamic, and growing company that values exceptional performance! Core One is seeking an Accounting Manager to supervise the accounting team's day-to-day execution and own the department's recurring deliverables. Reporting to the Director of Accounting and supervising the Associates and Senior Associates, this individual is the team's first-line leader: assigning and balancing daily work, reviewing and approving what the associates prepare, and keeping recurring cycles - close, billing, AP, and payroll - accurate and on time. The Accounting Manager sets the daily operating pace, serves as the first escalation point for the team, and ensures work is complete and accurate before it moves to the Director. The role owns execution; ownership of cash, the audit relationship, internal controls, and overall department accountability remains with the Director of Accounting. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Team Supervision * Directly supervise the Accounting Associates and Senior Associates; assign, balance, and monitor daily workload. * Set the daily operating pace and hold the team to fast, accurate turnarounds while sustaining a positive environment. * Serve as the first-line escalation point for the team's day-to-day questions and issues. * Train and onboard associates; coach for accuracy, efficiency, and development. Review & Approval * Review and approve associate-prepared work before it moves to the Director: journal entries, account reconciliations, billings, AP vouchers, and cash receipts. * Review payroll processing prepared by the team for accuracy prior to posting. * Confirm reconciliations are complete and supported, and resolve discrepancies with the team. * Provide the Director with review-ready deliverables and flag exceptions that require Director attention. Recurring Execution Ownership * Own the month-end close mechanics for the team - maintain the close checklist, coordinate associate tasks, and deliver an accurate, on-time close package to the Director. * Own the recurring billing, accounts payable / check-run, and payroll-processing cycles end to end. * Track turnaround times and error rates; report cycle status and risks to the Director. * Prepare and pull the team's supporting schedules and documentation for audits, coordinated through the Director. Process & Standards * Maintain standard operating procedures and checklists for the team's recurring work. * Identify and implement process improvements and automation at the team level. * Ensure the team's work follows established accounting policies and internal controls. * Provide supervisory coverage for the team during planned absences and assist with special projects as requested. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. * 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. * 2+ years of supervisory or team-lead experience. * Government-contracting accounting experience. * Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint. * Demonstrated experience reviewing others' work and coordinating month-end close activities. * Strong knowledge of US GAAP and strong general-accounting skills. * Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; strong organizational and time-management abilities. * Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience supporting organizations with multiple legal entities. * Familiarity with DCAA compliance and government-contract accounting practices. * SECRET clearance or higher. Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000 The pay range reflected above is a general guideline for this position and labor category and is not a guarantee of a specific salary or offer. Final compensation is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, education, certifications, security clearance level, contract requirements, geographic location, and internal pay equity, and may reflect market data specific to the awarded contract. Core One is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, or protected veteran status and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.
