The Role
http://Span.IO is seeking an Accounting Manager to help lead our accounting function as we scale hardware manufacturing and expand our product portfolio. This role owns inventory and cost accounting across our contract manufacturing and consignment arrangements, drives the monthly close and reconciliation process, and partners closely with the Senior Manager, Accounting on external audit support and financial statement preparation. Beyond core accounting, this person will also own revenue recognition and lease accounting entries and will mentor and develop direct reports as the team grows. The ideal candidate is an agile, fast-learning accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and builds strong cross-functional partnerships across Supply Chain, FP&A, and Legal. Critical skills for this position include solid experience with US GAAP, clear communications, being a team player, maintaining confidentiality, detail-oriented, and acting with the highest degree of integrity.
About You
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and accruals
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience with contract manufacturing and consignment inventory accounting in a manufacturing or hardware environment, revenue recognition (ASC 606) and lease accounting (ASC 842).
  • Experience handing accounting and reporting for Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) entities; and managing/supporting standalone entity reporting
  • Must have experience running the accounting close process and managing expectations, communications and deadlines
  • Must have experience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux/variance analysis
  • Experience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux/variance analysis
  • Must have a recent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Must have proficiency with NetSuite. Experience with FloQast or Blackline, Salesforce and Boomi is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships and communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance partners
  • Prior experience mentoring, coaching, or managing direct reports
  • Agile, adaptable, and a fast learner, comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Responsibilities, Duties, and Expectations:
Inventory & Cost Accounting (Contract Manufacturing & Consignment)
  • Own inventory and cost accounting for products manufactured through contract manufacturers (CMs) and EMS partners, ensuring accurate standard costing, purchase price variance (PPV) analysis, and overhead absorption
  • Manage full-cycle consignment accounting for inventory held at CM/EMS locations and distribution partners, including transfers, usage reporting, and reconciliation against counterparty records
  • Maintain inventory valuation and reserves - including slow-moving, excess, and obsolete (SLOB) inventory - in accordance with GAAP
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Operations to validate inventory movements, cycle counts, and cost data integrity within the ERP system

Month-End Close, Reconciliations & Reporting
  • Lead and/or support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation and review of journal entries
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations across key accounts; perform flux analysis and deliver clear, well-supported variance explanations to Finance leadership
  • Assist the Senior Manager, Accounting in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, including preparing PBC items and responding to audit inquiries

Revenue Recognition & Lease Accounting
  • Prepare and review revenue recognition entries in accordance with ASC 606, leveraging a semi-automated revenue process/system
  • Prepare and review lease accounting entries under ASC 842, including maintenance of right-of-use asset and lease liability schedules
  • Identify and help implement process improvements to increase automation and reduce close cycle time in these areas

Team Leadership & Development
  • Mentor and coach direct report(s) as applicable, providing guidance on technical accounting matters and supporting their professional growth
  • Foster a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement within the accounting team

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with Supply Chain, FP&A, and Legal to ensure accounting treatment aligns with business operations and contract terms
  • Act as a proactive finance partner to cross-functional stakeholders, translating accounting concepts into practical business guidance
  • Support ad hoc projects, system implementations, and process improvements across the broader Accounting organization
