What You Will Do:

The Associate Director of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting will lead the revenue recognition, contract accounting, and financial reporting processes for the commercial sector consulting practice. This role ensures compliance with ASC 606, other US GAAP, internal policies, and audit requirements while partnering closely with project finance, contracts, pricing, and operations.

The ideal candidate has experience in accounting for revenue related to professional services. This role is critical for ensuring accurate and timely monthly closes, providing technical accounting leadership, and supporting senior management with revenue insights and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

Revenue Recognition & Technical Accounting

  • Lead the evaluation and application of ASC 606 for commercial consulting contracts, including identifying performance obligations, determining transaction price, assessing variable consideration, and evaluating contract modifications.

  • Assess principal vs. agent considerations for subcontracting, pass throughs, and teaming partner arrangements.

  • Assist segment finance leaders in determining the appropriate accounting for contracts with customers, including new awards and modifications.

  • Maintain compliant documentation supporting revenue positions for internal and external audit.

Contract Accounting & Compliance

  • Ensure accounting and reporting practices are being performed consistently with our written policies and internal controls.

  • Review or oversee revenue treatment for subcontractors and billable expenses in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

Systems, Processes & Controls

  • Review contract level performance metrics to identify risks, opportunities, and accounting impacts.

  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, data quality, and internal controls across the revenue cycle.

  • Lead or support policy updates and process standardization initiatives.

  • Provide training and guidance to project managers and project finance on revenue concepts contract compliance.

Financial Reporting and Audit Support

  • Support internal and external auditors, responding to requests and providing required analyses.

  • Support the preparation of financial statements, footnotes, and audit schedules.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, professional services.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.

What Would Be Nice to Have:

  • Experience in large consulting firms.

  • Knowledge of Oracle FCCS similar financial reporting tools.

  • Prior leadership or team management experience.

  • Strong Excel and data analytics skills (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).

  • Experience with Peoplesoft.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced, contract driven environment.

  • Proactive problem solver with strong business judgment.

  • Excellent collaborator and communicator across technical and operational teams.
