The Opportunity
Contra Costa Water District is hiring a Water Treatment Supervisor to lead and support the daily operations and maintenance of one surface water treatment plant and related facilities. The Water Treatment Supervisor is responsible for supervising operations staff, ensuring compliance with water quality and regulatory standards, optimizing treatment processes, coordinating maintenance and capital improvement projects, and maintaining a safe and secure work environment. Working closely with the Water Treatment Superintendent, this role combines technical expertise, team leadership, and operational management to ensure the reliable production of high-quality potable water for the community. The position offers the exciting opportunity to lead skilled staff, contribute to process improvements, support strategic planning and budgeting efforts, and serve as a key resource in maintaining public health and environmental compliance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:Training: Equivalent to an associate degree with coursework in chemistry, biology, or related.
Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience operating a surface water treatment plant including two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Grade T4 Water Treatment Operator certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
  • Ability to obtain, and maintain possession of, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in a water treatment plant and standard office setting, use specialized equipment and instrumentation and standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate vehicle and visit various District sites; color vision to detect shades of color and vision to see alarms and to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This classification frequently sits and stands and walks between work areas. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate plant and standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds. When working in the field, must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light physical work to perform assigned duties; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; and reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch in the performance of assigned duties. The job involves fieldwork requiring walking in operational areas. Finger dexterity is needed to operate tools, instruments, and equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employees work primarily in a plant environment and are exposed to loud noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances, fumes, dust, air contaminants, and unpleasant odors. Employees may also work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, dust, and air contaminants.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employees may be required to work various shifts and outside of normal shift hours on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
