What is continuing legal education (CLE)?

Continuing Legal Education (CLE) refers to professional education that attorneys are required to complete after their initial admission to the bar. CLE programs keep lawyers up to date on legal developments, new laws, and evolving practices within the legal profession. Many jurisdictions mandate a specific number of CLE hours within a set time period to maintain a law license. CLE courses can cover a variety of legal topics and are often offered in-person, online, or through seminars and workshops. Participation ensures attorneys maintain competence and uphold the standards of the profession.

To thrive as a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Coordinator, you need a solid understanding of legal education requirements, strong organizational skills, and often a bachelor's degree in a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), event management software, and compliance tracking tools is typically required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills for coordinating programs and interacting with attorneys and regulatory bodies. These skills ensure CLE programs are compliant, well-run, and effectively support lawyers’ professional development.
