Content Writing Startup information

What is a content writing startup?

A content writing startup is a new business that specializes in creating written material for clients, such as blog posts, articles, website copy, social media content, and more. These startups typically employ or contract writers to produce high-quality, engaging, and SEO-optimized content for businesses looking to enhance their online presence. Content writing startups often serve a variety of industries and may offer additional services like content strategy, editing, and keyword research.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a content writer at a startup?

To thrive as a Content Writer at a startup, you need strong writing, research, and SEO skills, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio of published work. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools like SEMrush or Ahrefs, and basic graphic design software is typically required. Creativity, adaptability, and time management are essential soft skills for producing high-quality content in a fast-paced environment. These abilities are important because they enable you to create engaging, optimized content that drives growth and supports the startup’s evolving business goals.

What can I expect in terms of collaboration and feedback when working at a content writing startup?

At a content writing startup, you can expect a highly collaborative environment where writers regularly interact with editors, project managers, and sometimes even clients. Feedback is often frequent and direct, aimed at refining content quality and aligning with the startup's evolving brand voice. This dynamic setup means you'll likely participate in brainstorming sessions, adapt quickly to new topics, and work iteratively based on constructive critiques. Such an environment fosters rapid skill development and encourages open communication, making it ideal for those who thrive on teamwork and continuous learning.

Job description

Shape the Future of Cancer Treatment at Luminate

Luminate is on a mission to change the way we experience cancer care. We design and build products and services that reduce the financial, physical, and time burdens of cancer treatment. Our programs include enabling cancer care at home and preventing the side effects of anti-cancer therapies, with several active clinical trials around the world.

Working at Luminate

This is a key patient-facing hire at a rapidly growing startup. You will have an opportunity to shape how Luminate communicates with oncology providers and health plans and gain first-hand insights into the growth of a start-up.
We offer a highly competitive salary and equity package, a flexible benefits package, alongside a company laptop, headphones, camera and teamwear.
We believe in quality of life in our products and for our people, offering flexible working hours and a generous vacation policy.

What You Will Do:
  • Develop a communication strategy for provider and payer audiences by:
    • Interviewing patients, provider partners, and internal colleagues to understand the experiences, challenges, and results that best demonstrate the value of Luminate's programs.
    • Turning patient experiences, program results and market insights into clear and compelling pitch decks, executive memos, one-pagers, case studies, proposals, and other sales materials.
    • Building and maintaining a reusable library of member stories, provider perspectives, evidence, proof points, and approved messaging that can be tailored to different provider and payer audiences.
    • Developing and continuously improving our external messaging on our website and social media platforms to reflect our capabilities and our values.
    • Working with our Growth team to understand the questions and objections arising in partner discussions and continuously improving our commercial content in response.
  • Generate inbound provider and payer partnership leads by driving Luminate’s content marketing and thought leadership strategies through:
    • Creating an editorial plan focused on the issues most relevant to oncology practices, health systems, and health plans.
    • Working with medical, pharmacy, operational, and commercial subject matter experts to develop articles, case studies, white papers, webinars, videos and other thought leadership content.
    • Owning the delivery of internally hosted marketing initiatives such as webinars or territory partner meetings from initial concept through speaker preparation, promotion, moderation, production, and follow-up.
    • Confidently hosting or moderating webinars and helping speakers translate technical subject matter into an engaging discussion.
    • Identifying opportunities for contributed articles, speaking engagements, podcasts, external collaborations, and other channels that can build Luminate's credibility.
    • Measuring the impact of this strategy through metrics such as target-account participation, engagement, and follow-up conversations, and defining the contribution of this strategy to commercial opportunities.
  • Shape how Luminate showcases its brand at provider and payer conferences by:
    • Developing the narrative, messaging, presentations, booth content, collateral, and campaigns associated with each priority conference identified by the Growth team.
    • Co-ordinating speaking submissions and sponsorship opportunity selection with our Growth team.
    • Working with the Growth team to define target accounts, meeting objectives, and pre- and post-conference engagement plans.
    • Managing conference vendors and logistics where required and assessing performance through target-account engagement, meetings generated, speaking opportunities, commercial follow-up, and influenced pipeline.
  • Support patient communication activities by:
    • Developing welcome materials for patients that explain Luminate’s services, values, and commitment to quality.
    • Creating or reviewing patient-facing materials that provider partners use to explain Luminate's services.
    • Supporting the development of co-branded content while ensuring it is clear, empathetic, clinically appropriate, and consistent with Luminate's brand.
Personal Attributes – The Ideal Candidate Is:
  • Creative: A creative storyteller and problem solver who is enthusiastic and proactive about finding new ways to communicate important ideas.
  • Open: A proactive team player who actively seeks feedback and helps subject matter experts and teammates express their ideas clearly. You are willing to adopt, engage with and shape company culture in a positive manner.
  • Communicative: An exceptional written and verbal communicator who can build trust with members, clinicians, provider partners, payer leaders, and internal colleagues.
  • Self-Driven: You have a sense of urgency in your work and thrive when taking responsibility for tasks from idea to execution.
Requirements – The Ideal Candidate Must Have:
  • At least 2 years' prior experience in healthcare content marketing, communications/journalism, product marketing, sales enablement, or a related role creating content for healthcare or other complex professional audiences.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, showcased in a portfolio that demonstrates an ability to create persuasive presentations, articles, case studies, executive communications, or other professional content.
  • Demonstrated experience interviewing subject matter experts and translating complex clinical, technical, operational, or financial information into clear and compelling narratives.
  • Experience independently managing content or event projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders from initial concept through to delivery.
  • Confidence working directly with physicians, pharmacists, executives, provider partners, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Comfort working in an early-stage environment where messaging, evidence, and marketing processes are still being developed, and a curiosity to experiment with new approaches.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
Advantages – It Would be Advantageous to Have:
  • Experience creating content for health systems, physician practices, health plans, or other healthcare organizations.
  • An understanding of any of the following topics: value-based care, alternative healthcare payment models, home infusion, specialty pharmacy, or oncology care delivery.
  • Experience planning, producing, or moderating webinars, podcasts, panels, or other professional educational events.
  • Experience attending healthcare conferences or other field marketing experience.
  • Experience gathering and using patient or member stories in a healthcare environment, including an understanding of consent, privacy, and compliance considerations.
  • Experience using tools such as HubSpot, webinar platforms, content management systems, or design and presentation software.
Don’t have all of these requirements?

Some people are less likely to apply for a role unless they are 100% qualified. Your experience, skills and passion will set you apart - tell us what you have learned and achieved, whether personal or work-related! With the right mindset, many of the skills above can be learned on the job. If this role excites you, don’t let the description hold you back!
