What does an educational content writer do?

An Educational Content Writer creates learning materials such as textbooks, lesson plans, online courses, and assessments. Their main goal is to develop clear, accurate, and engaging content that aligns with curriculum standards and helps students learn effectively. They often collaborate with educators, subject matter experts, and instructional designers to ensure the content meets educational objectives. Educational Content Writers may also adapt materials for different age groups or learning styles and stay updated on best practices in teaching and learning.

What does an educational content writer do?

As an educational content writer, your job is to develop educational material for teachers and students. This may involve creating lesson plans, helping plan a curriculum, researching material, or finding sources to back up any claims in the content. Most educational content writers focus specifically on published material sold to schools or similar educational institutions, as well as research and study guides sold in bookstores. This job should not be confused with writing general educational content like blog posts, including posts from or by academic companies. Many educational content writers specialize in specific areas, especially for material in the K-12th-grade range.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an educational content writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Educational Content Writer, you need strong writing, research, and curriculum development skills, often supported by a degree in education, English, or a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), educational standards, and digital content creation tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Google Workspace is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly are essential soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities ensure that educational materials are engaging, accurate, and accessible, effectively supporting diverse learner needs.

How does an educational content writer typically collaborate with subject matter experts during the content creation process?

Educational Content Writers frequently work alongside subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure accuracy and depth in their materials. This collaboration often involves conducting interviews, requesting feedback on drafts, and clarifying complex concepts to make them accessible for learners. Building strong relationships with SMEs is essential, as it helps writers produce content that is both pedagogically sound and factually correct. Open communication and adaptability are key, as writers may need to revise content based on expert input or curriculum changes.

Job description

Content Marketing Specialist
Reports To: Director, Digital Marketing and Communications
Join Us in Reimagining the Path to Exceptional Care
At Sentact, we believe better healthcare starts with better experiences for patients, caregivers, and the organizations that support them. Through intuitive technology, sophisticated analytics, and trusted healthcare expertise, we help healthcare organizations improve patient safety, clinical quality, workforce performance, and patient experiences at scale. We're looking for a strategic storyteller and modern content marketer who wants to make an impact-not just create content.
About the Role
As Content Marketing Specialist, you'll own the planning, creation, and performance of Sentact's content program. You'll develop compelling content that educates healthcare leaders, supports demand generation and sales, strengthens our brand, and positions Sentact and its experts as trusted industry thought leaders.
Working with executives, clinicians, product experts, sales leaders, and customers, you'll translate complex healthcare topics into meaningful stories and high-value content. You'll help build a modern, multi-channel content engine that extends the value of Sentact's expertise across digital, social, search, sales, and thought-leadership channels.
What You'll Own
  • Develop and manage Sentact's annual content calendar aligned with business priorities, campaigns, product launches, buyer journeys, and Ideal Customer Profiles (ICPs).
  • Create high-value content across the buyer journey, including thought leadership, blogs, white papers, case studies, website and landing-page copy, email campaigns, social content, sales enablement, video concepts, and conference content.
  • Build Sentact's executive and subject-matter-expert thought leadership program, translating the expertise of executives, clinicians, customers, and industry leaders into compelling LinkedIn content, articles, videos, commentary, and other high-value content.
  • Develop a systematic content repurposing strategy that transforms cornerstone assets-including webinars, research, presentations, customer stories, executive interviews, conferences, and long-form content-into multiple channel-specific assets.
  • Create LinkedIn-native and social-first content designed to expand Sentact's reach and engagement within priority audiences, including executive thought leadership, storytelling, educational content, video, carousels, data insights, and customer stories.
  • Manage and/or support Sentact's social media profiles by developing and publishing relevant, engaging content, growing our follower network, increasing audience engagement, and continuously advancing our social presence and strategy.
  • Leverage AI and emerging content technologies to support research, ideation, drafting, editing, personalization, repurposing, and creative development while maintaining Sentact's voice, quality standards, and subject-matter accuracy.
  • Optimize content for traditional search (SEO) and emerging AI-driven discovery and answer engines (AEO/GEO), helping Sentact's expertise surface across Google and AI platforms.
  • Partner with Digital Marketing and Demand Generation to identify high-performing content for paid amplification, including LinkedIn Thought Leader campaigns, retargeting, and integrated campaigns targeting priority audiences.
  • Develop sales enablement content that strengthens customer conversations and connects thought leadership and educational content to deeper product engagement and pipeline opportunities.
  • Use performance data to test and optimize topics, formats, headlines, calls to action, distribution strategies, and content journeys based on audience engagement and commercial impact.
  • Manage the full content lifecycle from concept through publication, coordinating internal stakeholders, designers, agencies, and subject-matter experts while maintaining a consistent Sentact brand and voice.

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in B2B content marketing, communications, journalism, or a similar content-focused role.
  • Proven experience creating content for healthcare organizations, preferably in healthcare technology, healthcare services, health IT, or SaaS.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex clinical, operational, technical, and regulatory topics into compelling content for healthcare leaders.
  • Experience developing executive thought leadership, customer stories, social content, and sales enablement materials.
  • Strong understanding of SEO, AEO, content strategy, content distribution, and the B2B buyer journey.
  • Outstanding project management and collaboration skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Experience with HubSpot, CMS platforms, analytics tools, and AI-assisted content tools preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field.

How Success Will Be Measured
Success in this role will be measured by both the quality of Sentact's content and its ability to reach, engage, and influence our target audiences.
Key Content KPIs include:
  • ICP Reach & Engagement: Growth in qualified impressions, reach, engagement, video views, shares, saves, and content consumption among priority audiences.
  • Thought Leadership Performance: Growth in reach and engagement for Sentact executives and subject-matter experts, particularly across LinkedIn and other priority channels.
  • Organic & AI Search Visibility: Growth in qualified organic traffic, priority search visibility, and Sentact's presence within AI-driven search and answer platforms.
  • Content Conversion & Pipeline Influence: Engagement with content that leads to identified accounts, resource downloads, registrations, demo requests, opportunities, and content-influenced pipeline.
  • Content Velocity & Repurposing: Consistent delivery of priority content and increased output from cornerstone assets through effective repurposing and multi-channel distribution.
  • Content Performance: Continuous improvement in engagement, conversion, and performance of priority content based on testing, analytics, and optimization.

Portfolio Requirement
Applicants should submit a portfolio or writing samples demonstrating experience creating B2B healthcare or technology content, such as thought leadership, articles, white papers, case studies, website content, executive social content, customer stories, or sales enablement materials.
What Success Looks Like
You'll build and execute a year-round content program that consistently puts valuable Sentact expertise in front of the right healthcare leaders.
Most importantly, content will become a measurable contributor to Sentact's brand visibility, audience engagement, demand generation, and commercial growth.
Why Sentact?
At Sentact, you'll help shape the voice of a growing healthcare technology organization that's helping providers deliver safer care, better outcomes, and stronger experiences. You'll have access to deep healthcare expertise, compelling customer stories, and leaders with meaningful perspectives-and the opportunity to turn those insights into content that influences the industry.
If you're passionate about healthcare and love turning complex ideas into compelling stories that drive measurable results, we'd love to hear from you.
