What is content strategy?

Content strategy is the process of planning, developing, and managing content—written or otherwise—to achieve specific business goals. It involves understanding the target audience, determining which types of content will be most effective, and organizing content across various channels in a cohesive way. A strong content strategy ensures consistency, relevance, and value, helping organizations attract and engage their audience while supporting overall objectives like brand awareness or lead generation.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a content strategist?

A Content Strategist needs expertise in content creation, digital marketing, and audience analysis, typically supported by a degree in communications, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and analytics platforms is essential for effective planning and performance tracking. These competencies are vital for ensuring content aligns with business goals, resonates with target audiences, and drives measurable results.

How does a content strategist typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Content Strategists frequently work cross-functionally with marketing, design, product, and SEO teams to ensure content aligns with broader business objectives and user needs. Regular meetings and collaborative planning sessions are common, as strategists gather input from stakeholders, provide guidance on brand voice, and coordinate content calendars. This collaboration helps maintain consistency across channels, streamline workflows, and measure the impact of content initiatives. Being proactive in communication and open to feedback are key to building strong working relationships in this role.

  • Demonstrated history of crafting high-quality digital products that deliver measurable results, supported by a strong portfolio or case studies.

  • Experience collaborating with brand, marketing, and merchandising teams

  • 4+ years dedicated to managing content teams.

  • Proven skill in evaluating both customer and business impact of content decisions across product areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large scale initiatives involving multiple collaborator groups

  • Experience building a new content practice

Communication & Collaboration

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to clearly articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences and collaborators at all levels.

Education & Work Environment

  • Willingness to travel quarterly as needed; role requires regular presence in a local office.

Bonus:
