JOB TITLE: Vice President & Counsel, US Litigation

LOCATION: Miami, FL

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Vice President and Counsel, US Litigation is responsible for executing the strategic leadership and management of legal matters on behalf of TelevisaUnivision. This includes the discovery operations of the department, matter management for litigations, regulatory matters, internal investigations and required reporting. The VP works across the enterprise internally and externally to develop risk mitigating strategies that protect the assets and growth of the Company.

They should be a collaborative and self-driven individual with a proven track record of providing strategic counsel to the business, including risks associated with growth initiatives. Success in this role requires the ability to forge strong relationships internally and the ability to operate in a fast-paced media/entertainment environment.

YOUR DAY-DAY:

  • Provide expert in-house legal guidance to internal and external stakeholders through advanced knowledge and understanding of litigation
  • Design, build, and implement the risk management approach in coordination with multiple stakeholders, including finance, compliance and legal and strategically manage all areas of risk including, antitrust litigation, employment litigation, data protection disputes & patent and intellectual property litigation in the US.
  • Partner with the SVP, Employment and Litigation, Co-General Counsel and business teams to proactively develop content protection enforcement strategies that address risks regarding intellectual property, piracy protection, etc., of our content library and original programming.
  • Strategic management of litigation, dispute resolution, and state and federal governmental investigations alleging legal violations across all U.S. businesses and locations.
  • Routinely update and counsel senior management and legal functional leaders on topics related to areas of responsibility.
  • "Hands on" approach to managing litigation, including management of outside counsel, drafting motions, taking depositions, drafting discovery requests and responses, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy obligations in the sharing of information related to content protection enforcement efforts
  • Maintain current on business objectives and growth strategy to ensure understanding of evolving risks. Effectively research emerging litigation trends and risks throughout various regions and markets
  • Successfully manage and build effective relationships with member companies, outside legal counsel, internal constituents, and other external constituents to build consensus on global content protection enforcement and litigation matters
  • Provide review and counseling on indemnity clauses and insurance in significant contracts.
  • Proactively teach and train the business, including preparation of media-based training and in-person presentations to all businesses and functions to avoid litigation or manage risk.

YOU HAVE:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution required
  • Minimum of 7-10 years' relevant legal experience, incivil litigation, intellectual property, first amendment law, copyright law and criminal prosecution
  • Experience in the Broadcast Media industry preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to provide oversight and thought leadership to group-wide strategic level projects and manage senior executive level client relationships
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and build effective relationships at the highest level
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate areas of executive management concern, integrate varied perspectives, and respond accordingly
  • Strong matter management skills - ability to effectively prioritize litigation cases and work within deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior negotiation skills
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish
