Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Editorial Content Specialist crafts a wide range of communications materials throughout the company with the goal of supporting key business objectives and advancing our iconic outdoor brands to both internal and external audiences. As part of the communications team, you will produce content in support of all aspects of the business including retail, hospitality, marine manufacturing and conservation.
We're seeking an enthusiastic professional with a proven track record of writing and producing quality content while serving as an internal resource for various teams and departments. The successful candidate is a gifted writer and storyteller with a passion for the Bass Pro Shops family of brands and our mission to inspire everyone to enjoy, love and conserve the great outdoors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Act as the primary writer within the communications team and an editorial resource throughout the company. Ensure a high standard of excellence by editing, proofreading and reviewing written communications prior to publication for consistency, clarity, brand voice, proper grammar, formatting and AP style.
  • Serve as lead editor for internal communications, including print and digital materials. You will be responsible for story mining and reporting on the people, places and events that define our iconic outdoor brands with the goal of supporting key business updates, fostering team member engagement and growing our pioneering company culture.
  • Develop working relationships with internal subject matter experts throughout the company while bringing a journalistic approach to research, background gathering and fact-checking.
  • Write, edit and produce a wide variety of written content, including but not limited to news releases, fact sheets, calendar listings, news alerts, briefing documents, bios, backgrounders, talking points, blog posts, internal feature stories, strategic communications and customer FAQs.
  • Craft content and coordinate production for long-form communications projects such as reports and company collateral, as well as short-form materials such as web and catalog copy as needed.
  • Review partner press releases and other external-facing content to ensure our brand and executive details are accurate, on-brand and consistent across various platforms and channels.
  • Support daily media monitoring duties and efforts as needs arise.
  • Own master messaging documents and help coordinate a variety of multimedia resources including photos, videos, graphics, logos and other creative assets.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, English or Communications
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in Communications, PR, journalism, or related field.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience editing professional publications in a deadline-driven environment. Experience developing multimedia storytelling (via video, graphic and digital), SEO expertise and fundamental understanding of basic design principles.

  • Writing skills: You have superior writing and editing skills with a keen sense of storytelling to hook and engage readers. You constantly proofread for proper spelling, grammar, formatting and AP style. You love sharing great stories.
  • Organization: You thrive when managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritizing various projects without constant oversight.
  • Creative skills: You can produce consistently great content that engages key audiences while reflecting strategic objectives.
  • Technical expertise: You take formatting seriously and have a relentless commitment to asset management to ensure files are saved, maintained and accessed easily by multiple team members and departments.
  • Interpersonal skills: You can establish working relationships with a variety of team members to gather background information, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively to produce quality outcomes.
