Job Description - Leadership Development Coach
Position Information
  • Position Title: Leadership Training Coach
  • Department: Human Resources
  • Reports To: Manager, Training and Organizational Development
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Location: North Charleston, SC. Occasional Regional travel required.

Mission
The mission of the Leadership Development Coach is to build leadership capability across Palmetto Goodwill by equipping leaders with the skills, tools, and confidence to coach their teams, deliver performance, and live the I-CARE values every day. The coach develops frontline and emerging leaders through training, real-time feedback, and field-based coaching, embedding the habits of MIPS, ACE Culture, and Quarterly Touchpoints into daily operations. By strengthening how leaders lead, the coach drives team member growth, retention, and engagement in support of the Palmetto Goodwill mission.
Position Overview
The Leadership Development Coach designs, delivers, and reinforces leadership development programs that strengthen how Palmetto Goodwill leaders coach, communicate, and hold their teams accountable. The coach works through retail, contracts, mission services, and administrative functions to support leaders at every level, with a focus on frontline supervisors and emerging leaders. The role blends classroom facilitation, one-on-one coaching, and virtual instructor-led learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently facilitate leadership training sessions across various platforms, including in-person, virtual, and self-paced formats.
  • Coach team members and leaders on professional development, skill-building, and career growth aligned with the Mission Impact Performance System Framework.
  • Collaborate with managers, directors, and Human Resources business partners to assess training needs and identify development gaps.
  • Assist in the design, development, and continuous improvement of training materials, including facilitator guides, participant workbooks, job aids, and digital learning content.
  • Utilize Power BI, the Learning Management System, and other reporting tools to track training participation, completion, and effectiveness.
  • Support compliance training and ensure leader adherence to Palmetto Goodwill policies, federal contract requirements, and Goodwill Industries standards.
  • Reinforce ACE Culture, I-CARE values, and Coach 'Em Up practices through every training touchpoint.
  • Support Quarterly Touchpoint cycles by training leaders on conversation quality, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance documentation, and compliance reports.
  • Support new leader onboarding and assist with succession planning by identifying high-potential team members for development.
  • Travel occasionally across the Palmetto Goodwill territory to deliver training and support leaders in their work environments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the People and Culture function.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the team member uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reaches with hands and arms, and talks or hears. The team members frequently is required to sit, climb, balance, or smell. The team member must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move over 50 pounds.
Qualifications
  • Ability to exercise discretion while managing confidential information.
  • Proficient in the basic career and personal facilitating process while possessing strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Emotional Intelligence (EQ). High levels of self-awareness, maturity, and self-control.
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Awareness of the cultural diversity associated with Palmetto Goodwill team members and territory.
  • Ability to learn and apply different teaching techniques suitable for individual and classroom instruction.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team within the context of a team-based organization.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, appropriate insurance coverage, and a privately owned, reliable means of transportation to travel throughout assigned locations regularly.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in education, business, communication, human resources, or a related field preferred. Three years of experience in leadership training, facilitation, or learning and development required. Strong public speaking and presentation skills. Experience with Learning Management System platforms and data tracking tools. Experience coaching leaders in various environments.
