What is a content analyst's salary?

The average salary for a content analyst typically ranges from $50,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level roles may start lower, while experienced analysts with skills in data tools and analytics software can earn higher salaries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Content Analytics professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Content Analytics professional, you need strong analytical skills, experience with data analysis, and a background in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, and data visualization platforms like Tableau is typically expected. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and attention to detail are essential soft skills for interpreting data and presenting actionable insights. These skills enable you to drive data-informed content strategies that maximize engagement and business impact.

Will AI replace a data analyst?

AI can automate routine data processing and basic analysis tasks, but the role of a data analyst involves interpreting complex data, providing insights, and making strategic decisions that require human judgment. Content analytics professionals will likely see AI as a tool to enhance their work rather than replace their expertise entirely.

How does a Content Analytics professional typically collaborate with content creators and marketing teams?

Content Analytics professionals work closely with content creators and marketing teams to provide actionable insights derived from data. They regularly share reports on content performance, audience engagement, and trends, helping teams understand what resonates with their target audience. Collaboration often involves attending strategy meetings, recommending content adjustments based on analytics, and setting up dashboards or KPIs to track progress. This partnership ensures that content strategies are data-driven and aligned with business goals.

What is content analytics?

Content analytics is the process of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to digital content, such as articles, videos, or social media posts. It helps organizations understand how their content is performing, what engages their audience, and how to optimize future content strategies. By using content analytics tools, businesses can track metrics like views, shares, engagement rates, and conversions to make data-driven decisions. This field is essential for maximizing the effectiveness and ROI of content marketing efforts.

Can I be a data analyst with no experience?

Entry-level data analyst roles, including those in content analytics, often do not require prior experience if candidates have relevant skills such as proficiency in Excel, SQL, or data visualization tools. Gaining certifications or completing online courses can help demonstrate competence and improve job prospects for beginners.

What is the difference between Content Analytics vs Content Marketing?

A content analyst examines digital content such as articles, videos, and social media posts to assess quality, relevance, and engagement. They use data analysis tools and metrics to identify trends, optimize content strategies, and improve audience targeting.

Job Description

The Media Group at NBCU supports a powerhouse collection of consumer-first brands including Peacock, NBC, Bravo, NBC Sports, and NBCU International. With unequalled scale, our teams make the most out of every opportunity to collaborate and learn from one another. We’re always looking for ways to innovate faster, accelerate our growth and consistently offer the very best in consumer experience. But most of all, we’re backed by a culture of respect. We embrace authenticity and inspire people to thrive.

The Director, Content Insights & Analytics, will sit on Peacock’s Advanced Content Analytics team within NBCU Media Group Decision Sciences and serve as a senior leader overseeing content performance across a variety of genres on Peacock. This role acts as a strategic authority on content and audience intelligence, leading a high-performing team responsible for delivering actionable insights, scalable analytical frameworks, and self-service data solutions for a wide range of Peacock-focused and broader NBCU stakeholders.

This leader will partner closely with Content Programming, Scheduling, Marketing, and Strategy while integrating with other groups across Decision Sciences to translate first- and third-party data, as well as marketplace intelligence, into clear recommendations that inform business decision-making. The role will have a direct and measurable impact on Peacock’s continued growth and competitive position within the streaming landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop deep expertise in Peacock’s content portfolio and audience behavior, serving as a trusted thought partner to senior stakeholders across content development and strategy
  • Translate complex analyses, streaming KPIs, and methodologies into clear, compelling written and verbal narratives tailored to diverse audiences, including senior creative executives and external partners
  • Oversee the data requirements, design, development, and ongoing maintenance of data products that enable scalable, self-service access to insights across NBCU
  • Partner closely with Consumer Insights to shape research agendas and deliver integrated, holistic perspectives on content performance and audience engagement
  • Contribute to cross-platform performance analyses, providing critical Peacock-centered insights that help contextualize NBCU’s broadcast and cable content performance
  • Guide the communication of content performance to external partners when contractually required or strategically valuable to business relationships
  • Collaborate with key deal-making and content stakeholders (including Acquisitions, Originals, Finance, Programming, and Strategy) to design and execute analyses that directly support commercial and strategic initiatives
  • Own projects end-to-end, from framing and planning through execution and delivery, ensuring outputs are timely, accurate and aligned with business objectives
  • Champion data democratization, performance storytelling, and data-driven decision-making across the organization
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing, high-output analytics team while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and equitable culture within NBCUniversal
Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in the media and entertainment industry, with a strong track record of working with large, complex datasets and advanced analytical tools
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, confidently, and persuasively with stakeholders at all levels, especially creative execs, and comfort presenting and speaking extemporaneously in senior forums
  • Strong working knowledge of the streaming/media landscape and a love and appreciation for great content
  • Strategic, outcome-oriented thinker with the ability to derive insights, conclusions, and recommendations from ambiguous or unstructured data from disparate sources
  • Highly collaborative leader with strong intellectual curiosity, accountability, detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to drive projects of varying scope with clarity and purpose
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant quantitative or analytical field required
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, Excel, and Tableau

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Understanding of Nielsen measurement methodology and experience analyzing Nielsen data, both traditional and streaming content/platform
  • Experience supervising entry-level and mid-career employees

Additional Requirements

  • Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
