Job description

At Wizards of the Coast, we harness the power of imagination and connection to create unforgettable experiences. We create entertainment that inspires creativity, sparks passion, forges friendships, and fosters communities around the globe. In every pursuit our mission is to inspire a lifetime love of games. Whether it's through the strategic depth of Magic: The Gathering, the rich storytelling of Dungeons & Dragons, or our AAA digital game studios, we build worlds that bring people together, spark creativity, and fuel adventure. As we continue to grow and explore new realms, we're seeking passionate, curious, and innovative minds to join the adventure.

About the Team:

The Commercial and Shopper Insights team at Wizards of the Coast sits at the center of a business spanning the Wizards Play Network (WPN), hobby retail, mass and the broader retail ecosystem. Our work informs decisions made across sales, trade marketing, retailer success and go-to-market teams, with a consistent focus on understanding what retailers need to succeed and what drives shopper behavior.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Research Manager to join as a hands-on quantitative researcher with at least six years of experience. This person will design and execute studies that help us understand our retail partners (local game stores, WPN members and broader retail ecosystem) as well as the Magic: The Gathering shoppers who engage with these channels. The work spans retailer health tracking, custom shopper studies and retail facing research. This person will work day-to-day in close partnership with the Commercial and Shopper Insights leader.

The ideal candidate will run studies largely independently, be highly collaborative and bring passion for understanding retailer needs, shopper behavior and experience in (or genuine curiosity of) trading card games.

What You Will Do:
Design, program, and execute quantitative studies targeting retail partners and Magic: The Gathering shoppers.
Own research projects from scoping and design through fielding, data analysis, and final delivery.
Ensure high standards for quality, rigor and actionability across all deliverables.
Integrate primary research with secondary sources and internal analytics to create a comprehensive view of the business.
Translate findings into clear, action-ready outputs that drive decisions for stakeholders across commercial and cross-functional teams.
Build polished deliverables that make research accessible and actionable for non-research audiences.
Manage project timelines, track progress across multiple concurrent studies, and communicate status proactively.
Collaborate with internal partners to shape research that connects directly to their business questions.
Support ongoing retailer health tracking and custom research across WPN stores, local game stores, and broader retail ecosystem.

What You Bring:

6+ years of experience conducting quantitative research in consumer insights, market research or related field.
A BA/BS or comparable experience is required, ideally in social sciences, marketing, market research, or a similar area.
Hands-on survey programming experience on at least one major platform (Alchemer, Qualtrics, Forsta or comparable), including managing survey design and data delivery independently.
Experience and proficiency with a variety of quantitative methodologies (like tracking studies, MaxDiff or pricing).
Strong analytical abilities and the capacity to recognize patterns in data and construct an evidence-supported narrative.
Experience delivering research to collaborators outside of research functions.
Demonstrated ability to tell compelling stories with data and insights.
A track record of managing multiple research projects simultaneously with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
Strong visual storytelling skills, including building presentation-ready deliverables in PowerPoint or equivalent tools.
Strong project management instincts with close attention to detail and consistent communication habits.
Experience using AI tools to improve research efficiency and building that practice into how you work, across study development, analysis, and reporting.
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across commercial partners and alongside broader insights and analytics teams across the organization.

Nice to Have:

MBA, other advanced degree or additional education in research is a plus.
Experience in retail, gaming, or entertainment.
Familiarity with B2B research, including retailer or store-owner audiences.
Background working alongside or supporting commercial teams such as sales, trade marketing or go-to-market.
Interest in or exposure to the trading card game or hobby category.
