Job description

Director Consulting Services
Category: Business Consulting, Strategy and Digital Transformation
Main location: United States, Virginia, Fairfax
Position ID:J0526-1901
Employment Type: Full Time
Position Description:
The Director, Consulting Services is a senior leader responsible for shaping client relationships, overseeing delivery excellence, and expanding CGI's presence within the environmental field. This role sits at the intersection of mission-driven consulting and strategic business leadership, supporting organizations whose work advances environmental science, sustainability, natural resource management, conservation, climate initiatives, and environmental policy.
Leaders in this position combine consulting acumen with environmental domain insight. They understand the scientific, regulatory, and operational challenges facing public-sector agencies, research institutions, and environmental organizations, and they translate those needs into well-designed strategies, solutions, and delivery outcomes.
This position is located in Fairfax, VA.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
In this role, you serve as the primary relationship owner for clients working across environmental programs, research domains, and sustainability-focused missions. You cultivate lasting partnerships by understanding client priorities, anticipating emerging needs, and offering insights into how CGI's capabilities can support their objectives. You guide clients through complex challenges-whether related to environmental data management, scientific research systems, permitting and compliance workflows, conservation initiatives, climate resilience programs, or modernization of mission-support technologies.
Your leadership extends across the full portfolio of work. You oversee teams delivering technology, consulting, and operational solutions that enable environmental missions to operate effectively and efficiently. You help ensure engagements run smoothly, remain aligned to scope and budget, and deliver measurable results to clients and stakeholders.
As a people leader, you are responsible for building and developing a strong consulting team. You recruit and onboard new members, help them grow their environmental expertise, and support their professional development through coaching, performance management, and opportunities that expand their skill sets. You foster a team culture that encourages collaboration, knowledge sharing, and accountability.
You also lead the operational and financial management of your portfolio. This includes forecasting, utilization planning, margin stewardship, and applying CGI's management frameworks to ensure predictability and stability. Your decisions help shape the long-term trajectory of the environmental practice, ensuring the organization is prepared to meet client needs while continuing to innovate and evolve.
Finally, you actively maintain and expand your environmental expertise. You stay informed about developments in environmental science, climate priorities, sustainability strategies, ecological modeling, and data-driven environment.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
What You Bring
Successful candidates have experience supporting environmental programs, research initiatives, scientific missions, or sustainability-driven organizations. They bring a strong foundation in consulting leadership paired with domain understanding-whether rooted in environmental science, policy, regulatory processes, climate work, ecological data, or environmental technology.
They are persuasive communicators who can engage executives, technical experts, and delivery teams with equal confidence. They understand how to grow business opportunities, design effective solutions, and manage the financial health of their portfolio. Just as importantly, they demonstrate empathy, curiosity, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate complex environmental challenges into actionable strategies.
What Will Set You Apart
You will stand out if you bring a blend of environmental expertise and consulting leadership experience. This may include work in areas such as environmental data systems, sustainability planning, scientific modeling, conservation programs, climate resilience, or the modernization of mission-driven systems. Experience guiding multidisciplinary teams-spanning science, technology, policy, and operations-is a strong advantage. Candidates who have supported large, matrixed environmental organizations or have led portfolios spanning multiple environmental domains will be especially well positioned for this role.
Success Measures
Success is reflected in long-standing client relationships, consistently high-quality delivery outcomes, growth of your portfolio, the development and engagement of your team, and strong financial performance. This role contributes meaningfully to both mission impact and organizational growth, making your leadership central to advancing CGI's work in the environmental sector.
