To thrive as a Consulting RFP Specialist, you need strong analytical abilities, proposal writing skills, and a solid understanding of consulting services and procurement processes, often supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with RFP management tools like RFPIO, proposal automation software, and CRM systems is typically required. These skills are crucial for creating compelling proposals that win business and ensure compliance with client requirements.

What are some common challenges faced when preparing a consulting RFP, and how can applicants address them?

One common challenge in preparing a consulting RFP is ensuring that responses are tailored to the specific requirements and objectives outlined by the client. Applicants often need to balance demonstrating expertise with providing clear, customized solutions. Additionally, meeting tight deadlines and coordinating input from multiple internal stakeholders can be demanding. To address these challenges, it's important to thoroughly review the RFP, communicate closely with your team, and allocate ample time for drafting and revising your proposal. Strong project management and attention to detail can significantly improve the quality and competitiveness of your submission.

What is a consulting RFP?

A Consulting RFP (Request for Proposal) is a formal document that organizations use to solicit proposals from consulting firms or independent consultants for a specific project or service. It outlines the project's scope, objectives, timeline, budget, and evaluation criteria, allowing consultants to submit detailed proposals on how they would address the organization's needs. The RFP process helps organizations compare different consultants' approaches, experience, and costs to make an informed hiring decision.

Team: SmartDollar

Please note that applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Location: Franklin, TN—on-site, relocation assistance available, flexible schedules available

A Little Bit About Us: You might know us from our founder and CEO, Dave Ramsey, who’s given no-nonsense money advice on the radio since 1992. Three decades later, Ramsey Solutions is a household name in personal finance, with a mission to change the toxic money culture for good.

Our Mission: Ramsey Solutions provides biblically based, commonsense education and empowerment that give HOPE to everyone in every walk of life.

Here’s a Taste of Our Benefits:

  • Health insurance (includes plans eligible for an HSA—with a company match up to $500!)
  • 401(k) retirement plan with 4% match/company contribution
  • Annual wellness, counseling and grocery membership reimbursement
  • On-campus cafe with subsidized pricing for breakfast, lunch and coffee bar
  • Dependent care FSA
  • Tons of cultural activities, like weekly devotional, leadership development courses, Battle of the Bands, and one epic Christmas party!

Where and How You’d Work:

Ramsey Solutions Headquarters is located just outside of Nashville in Franklin, Tennessee. We value our strong, unified company culture because we believe the best work is done together. That’s why all of our team members work on-site under the same roof. But work-life balance is also important to us, so we offer flexible work schedules to take the stress out of appointments, family obligations and other needs that may pop up.

While every team member has a designated workspace (with an electronic sit-stand desk), our campus was designed to house a variety of unique work and play zones (e.g., quiet library space, coffee bar/lounge areas, recreational game zone, and outside/patio work and break areas).

What You’d Do in This Role:

We’re looking for a Director of Consultant Relations to build and lead SmartDollar’s consultant strategy from the ground up. This role will establish strategic relationships with the nation’s leading benefits consulting firms, positioning SmartDollar as a trusted financial wellbeing solution for enterprise employers. You’ll create the playbook, influence how some of the country’s largest organizations evaluate financial wellness, and build a consultant channel that drives long-term enterprise growth. More than building relationships, you’ll help expand SmartDollar’s reach so millions more employees have access to a proven plan to win with money.

You’re Probably a Match If:

  • Build SmartDollar’s consultant strategy from the ground up, creating the relationships and partnerships that drive enterprise growth.
  • Develop trusted relationships with senior consultants, practice leaders, marketplace teams, and brokerages that influence benefits decisions at America’s largest employers.
  • Position SmartDollar as a trusted financial wellbeing solution through education, thought leadership, and strategic engagement across the benefits consulting community.
  • Create consultant-ready resources, including RFP content, ROI frameworks, case studies, and competitive positioning, that make SmartDollar easy to recommend.
  • Pursue preferred vendor status, marketplace inclusion, and strategic partnerships with firms like Mercer, Willis Towers Watson, Aon, Gallagher, and other leading consulting organizations.
  • Partner with Enterprise Sales to influence consultant-led opportunities, improve RFP success, and accelerate enterprise growth.
  • Develop consultant partnership strategies, including referral, marketplace, and co-marketing agreements.
  • Represent SmartDollar at industry conferences, executive briefings, and consultant events while building a scalable consultant channel.

What Winning Looks Like:

  • You’re passionate about the mission of Ramsey Solutions and helping people win with money.
  • You have 8+ years of experience in employee benefits, financial wellness, retirement, voluntary benefits, EAP, benefits technology, or a related industry.
  • You have an established network of relationships with senior consultants, practice leaders, or principals at leading benefits consulting firms and national brokerages.
  • You have deep knowledge of the employee benefits ecosystem, including consultant and broker models, enterprise RFP processes, and vendor partnership strategies.
  • You’ve built or grown a consultant relations, channel, or strategic partnership program that drove measurable business results.
  • You have experience partnering with consultants throughout enterprise buying cycles, including consultant-led RFPs and finalist presentations.
  • You’re an influential cross-functional leader who builds trust and drives results across Sales, Marketing, Product, and other business partners.
  • You have the executive presence to build credibility with senior consultants, CHROs, Benefits leaders, and Total Rewards executives.
  • You lead with humility, high emotional intelligence, and a track record of earning trust through results.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred. CEBS, GBA, or similar industry certifications are a plus.

Other Stuff to Know:

We’re looking for people who are passionate about our mission. This isn’t just a J-O-B. We experience resistance every day because what we believe is absolutely countercultural. We actually hate debt. We actually cut up our credit cards . . . like, for real. Some of us are still fighting our way out of debt, but we aren’t going back.
