What is a consulting partner?

A Consulting Partner is a senior professional in a consulting firm who leads client engagements, manages key accounts, and contributes to the firm's strategic direction. They typically oversee project teams, develop business opportunities, and ensure high-quality service delivery to clients. Consulting Partners also play a critical role in mentoring junior staff and building long-term client relationships. Their expertise and leadership help drive the firm's growth and reputation in the industry.

How does a consulting partner typically balance client acquisition with project delivery responsibilities?

As a Consulting Partner, you are expected to juggle both business development and project leadership. This often means dedicating part of your time to nurturing client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and preparing proposals, while also overseeing the execution of key projects. Partners frequently lead teams, set strategic direction, and ensure high-quality deliverables, all while supporting junior staff in their professional development. The ability to manage these dual aspects is crucial for success and advancement in the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a consulting partner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Consulting Partner, you need deep industry expertise, a strong track record in consulting or business development, and typically an advanced degree like an MBA. Proficiency in project management tools, CRM systems, and data analytics platforms is often required, along with certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma being advantageous. Outstanding leadership, strategic thinking, and exceptional client relationship skills are crucial for building trust and driving business growth. These competencies are essential for delivering high-value solutions, leading teams, and sustaining long-term client partnerships.

Consulting Partner - Supply Chain & Technology Consulting

Dedicated Account Lead - Hyper Scaler

Overview

We are looking for a Consulting Partner to serve as the dedicated supply chain consulting lead for one of our hyperscaler accounts, an ideal role for a consulting executive who thrives at the intersection of supply chain transformation, digital enablement, and large-scale enterprise innovation. This is a senior, client-embedded leadership role: the Consulting Partner shapes strategy, drives consulting-led revenue, and leads delivery excellence within the account, requiring deep supply chain domain expertise and the judgment to translate that expertise into hyper scaler-specific business impact.

This role is realistically anchored in one or two supply chain disciplines (for example Planning or Logistics), applied with enough depth to hold credible, independent business conversations with our hyperscaler account stakeholders and to understand the relevant technology landscape underpinning those areas (planning platforms, execution systems, and adjacent tooling). The Consulting Partner shapes solution frameworks (people, process, and technology) largely independently, then pulls in the right subject matter experts to pressure-test and strengthen the approach, and carries end-to-end accountability for delivering those efforts to the customer's satisfaction.

The role also carries a sales dimension: identifying opportunities beyond the current scope of work, pitching solution frameworks that earn the hyper scaler's confidence, and then engaging the Bristlecone Client Partner to convert those early discussions into structured, viable commercial engagements. Revenue and margin targets are associated with this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the dedicated supply chain consulting lead embedded in the hyperscaler account, owning account-level consulting strategy, solution design, and delivery execution across engagements.
  • Bring deep, credible domain expertise in one or two supply chain disciplines (e.g., Planning, Logistics, Manufacturing Operations, Reverse Logistics), sufficient to engage hyper scaler stakeholders directly and effectively on their business problems, backed by working knowledge of the technology landscape relevant to those areas.
  • Independently develop solution frameworks spanning people, process, and technology in response to the hyperscaler's stated and emerging business problems.
  • Identify and engage the right internal subject matter experts to validate, refine, and strengthen solution frameworks, and coordinate their input into a coherent point of view for the client.
  • Own end-to-end delivery accountability for consulting engagements on the account, ensuring execution meets the hyperscaler's satisfaction on scope, quality, timeline, and outcomes.
  • Proactively identify opportunities in adjacent areas of the hyperscaler's business, build and pitch credible solution frameworks to earn client confidence, and engage the Bristlecone Client Partner to develop those discussions into viable commercial engagements.
  • Carry revenue and margin targets for consulting-led work on the account, balancing near-term delivery commitments with longer-term pipeline development.
  • Partner closely with the Client Partner and Delivery leadership, operating as the domain-expert counterpart to the Client Partner's commercial and relationship focus, so account growth and delivery execution stay aligned.
  • Develop trusted relationships with key stakeholders across the hyper scaler's supply chain and operations teams, from working level to senior executives, and build a strong reputation as a credible, dependable partner who drives supply chain and operations transformation initiatives.
  • Develop account-specific thought leadership, including industry insights, whitepapers, and executive roundtables, focused on digital supply chain and transformation trends relevant to the hyper scaler's environment.
  • Mentor consultants and SMEs engaged on the account to strengthen delivery capability and support their development.

Qualifications

  • Previous consulting experience is required.
  • Experience at a Big 4 or Tier 1 IT services consulting firm is strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years in supply chain, with deep, demonstrable expertise in one or two disciplines (e.g., Planning or Logistics), ideally within the technology, digital, or hyperscaler ecosystem.
  • Proven ability to independently develop solution frameworks (people, process, technology) and to identify and mobilize the right subject matter experts to validate and deliver them.
  • Track record of owning delivery execution end-to-end, with accountability for engagement outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Reasonably sales-savvy: able to spot opportunities, build credible pitches, and earn client confidence, then work with a commercial/Client Partner counterpart to develop, sell, and shape viable, potentially multi-year transformation engagements. Deep commercial deal-structuring is not the primary skill required, but comfort operating in that direction is.
  • Strong understanding of digital supply chain solutions, cloud transformation, and technology-enabled operating models relevant to the individual's core domain(s).
  • Exceptional client engagement and communication skills, with the ability to hold effective, credible conversations with hyper scaler team members about their business problems, and to drive alignment across business and IT stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of achieving growth and delivery targets while leading cross-functional teams.

Additional Requirements

  • Location: Mountain View, CA or surrounding area.
  • Work Model: Hybrid - regular onsite collaboration with the hyperscaler account team.
  • Travel: Up to 25% based on client and project needs.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; MBA or Master's in Supply Chain, Operations, or a related discipline preferred.
