We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our Duke Department of Radiation Oncology team at the Duke Cancer Center as well as Duke University Hospital both located in Durham, NC to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support our inpatient consult service and outpatient clinic.
Job hours
Primary hours will be flexible (possibility of four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts) to meet the needs of the patients.
Experience
Prefer candidates with work experience caring for Radiation Oncology or Oncology patients: 1+ years as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant or 2+ years as a Registered Nurse
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with designated physicians to evaluate and diagnose oncologic and medical problems and prescribe necessary treatment and services for Radiation Oncology patients
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories, conduct physical exams, order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to evaluate patient condition, and formulate appropriate treatment plans
  • Provide education to patients and caregivers regarding the diagnosis, treatment plan, and the risks, benefits, side effects, and logistics of radiation treatment
  • Assess for and manage acute and late radiation-related effects
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure appropriate coordination of care
  • Participate in education of new staff, students, and residents
  • Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics, and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies
  • Attend program required meetings
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
  • BLS required.
License
  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • DEA license required.
