Job description

Required to have management experience on direct-hire power projects. ACC experience with Combined Cycle is preferred.
Job Summary:
The Construction Manager is responsible for overall project construction execution on medium to large projects, normally less than 5 million work hours. Responsible for the execution of the construction plan at the job site, including all construction activities and changes to the plan as required, to meet the schedule and cost goals of the project. Responsible for safety, quality, client interface, construction operations, cost, and schedule.
Primary Duties:
  • Understand contract requirements
  • Actively participate in the development of a construction HSSE culture that makes safety and environmental awareness a natural part of the job
  • Provide constructability input during design
  • Develop a construction organizational plan commensurate with the requirements of the project
  • Visit sites for pending projects and evaluate site conditions and extraordinary requirements
  • Ensure each direct report has a full understanding of the Project Execution Plan and other information pertinent to construction execution, and lead the team to deliver a successful project
  • Accountable for the functional direction, coordination, and performance of all on-site construction operations and support departments, including field management, quality, safety, material management, procurement, construction engineering, human resources, business services, industrial relations, and facility turnover
  • Coordinate and interface with others as required to execute the construction plan and assure that labor, equipment, and materials are available to support the construction effort
  • Assure construction work is performed within the budget and schedule constraints of the project
  • Controls change/scope creep, ensuring that all scope changes are quickly and properly documented, and that change orders are approved before the performance of work
  • Monitor and control cost, schedule, progress, and productivity, including analyzing deviations and acting to correct negative trends
  • Advise management of developments that could affect project profit, schedule, costs, client relations, and interdepartmental or inter-divisional relations
  • Manage the scope of work by identifying change conditions or work outside of scope
  • Maintain a chronological record of the project history by having the minutes of meetings and telephone conversations written
  • Confirm in writing all significant instructions given to the project team or received from the Client
  • Promote an atmosphere of open and honest communication between Yates and the client, with the goal of excellence in customer relationships
  • Delegate responsibilities and authority to subordinates on the Project Team for the planning and execution of the work

    • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work according to the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices

    • Participate in workplace inspections.
    • Comply with statutory requirements, including the duty of care.
    • Participate in required and/or assigned training.
    • Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
    • Present a mature approach to working safely.
    • Attend pre-start and Safety meetings and contribute.
    • Assist with administering the site safety program as required and ensuring Trade Partner compliance with OSHA standards and Yates Site Specific Requirements, and all applicable safety codes and regulations.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Management in support of the successful completion of the project.

Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate University degree or higher (preferably in Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related field) is desirable.
    • Other relevant education, training, or work experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
    • Minimum of ten (10) years of construction experience
    • � Minimum of five (5) years of management experience
  • Experience managing the scope of work.

Requirements:
  • Extensive experience in all relevant aspects of on-site construction
  • Training and experience in managing on-site safety and personnel issues
  • Implementation and Management of Yates procedures and standards
  • High focus on ensuring that all aspects of the construction work are performed safely
  • Knowledge of basic construction and/or engineering principles
  • Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, product/material installation instructions, and engineering/architectural drawings
