Job description

Job Title: Construction Safety Specialist (Commercial & Infrastructure)
Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and field-oriented Construction Safety Specialist to join our project infrastructure team. In this role, you will be a vital asset on the ground, supporting project leadership, general foremen, and field personnel in developing, implementing, and sustaining a proactive, zero-injury safety culture. You will ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations while providing critical technical support, including the development of a Project Safety Roadmap. The ideal candidate is a credentialed professional and a natural relationship builder who can seamlessly engage with craft workers and field personnel to promote safety as a core value for our employees, the public, and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
Field Safety Leadership & Compliance
• Regulatory Oversight: Monitor active, large-scale construction operations to ensure absolute compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Standards Integration: Apply a solid working knowledge of electrical industry consensus standards (including NFPA, NESC, ASTM, and ANSI) to live field operations.
• Safety Roadmaps: Provide technical assistance to the project management team by developing, executing, and maintaining site-specific Project Safety Roadmaps.
Incident Investigation & Case Management
• Root-Cause Analysis: Support the General Foreman and Project Leadership in conducting comprehensive incident investigations for any near-misses or site occurrences.
• Case Facilitation: Manage and facilitate all injury and illness cases, ensuring proper documentation, medical care coordination, and return-to-work protocols are meticulously followed.
• Preventative Action: Track safety metrics and implement corrective actions to eliminate physical hazards.
Field Engagement & Training
• Relationship Building: Actively engage with field personnel and craft workers to foster an open, transparent safety culture built on mutual trust.
• Toolbox Talks & Coaching: Deliver proactive safety coaching, lead hazard recognition assessments, and assist in or facilitate CPR/First Aid training and safety certifications.
Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory Hard Filters (Applications will not be considered without these)
• BCSP Certification: Must hold a current, valid certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (e.g., CHST, ASP, CSP, SMS, or OHST).
• Project Scope: Minimum of 3 years of dedicated construction safety experience specifically within large-scale, non-residential projects (commercial, industrial, civil, or utility infrastructure). Residential experience does not qualify.
• Safety Training: Valid OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
• Licensure: Valid state-issued driver's license with a satisfactory driving record (MVR check required).
Preferred & General Qualifications
• Specific safety experience within the electrical utility, substation, transmission, or commercial electrical sectors is highly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Construction Management, Engineering, or Business is desired.
• CPR/First Aid Certification is required (Trainer certification is a strong plus).
Physical Demands & Work Environment
• Field & Office Work: Ability to work in both indoor office environments and variable outdoor construction job site settings.
• Mobility Demands: Frequent standing, walking across uneven terrain, sitting, bending, typing, and climbing.
• Site Capabilities: Ability to occasionally work at heights, navigate confined spaces, and lift up to 40 pounds safely.
