Position Summary

The Safety Analyst leads institutional efforts to develop, coordinate, and monitor General Industry Occupational Safety and Health programs. The Safety Analyst is responsible for developing safety programs, conducting safety inspections, and providing safety training to support safety efforts across the College community.

Duties & Responsibilities

Advises the college community regarding safety practices and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal agencies including Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA), New Mexico Department of Labor (DOL), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and local ordinance.
Leads the college-wide effort in developing, updating, and implementing campus safety programs.
Serves as a technical expert advising the Campus Safety Committee and Management in applicable safety compliance issues.
Schedules, reviews, evaluates, monitors and maintains third-party vendor relations for campus safety activities.
Performs analysis and data management of college-wide information related to campus safety programs.
Prepares reports and trending analysis of compliance conditions for campus safety programs.
Conducts routine and follow-up inspections of buildings, classrooms, laboratories and college facilities and ensures that all problems discovered are corrected.
Researches applicable regulations for campus safety and occupational safety compliance concerns.
Supports Risk Management efforts to monitor, develop, and implement college-wide life safety, fire prevention, and environmental health programs when programs overlap or when the needs of the department change.
Performs or coordinates industrial hygiene studies (light, noise, air samples) in areas identified by safety programs.
Conducts ergonomic assessments and provides guidance to support workspace injury reduction and increase productivity.
Investigates employee and student injuries that occur on campus.
Prepares reports and conducts trending analysis for accidents and incidents.
Presents to the Incident Review Committee the results and findings from accident investigations.
Oversees or conducts (when needed) monthly fire equipment inspections and automated external defibrillator inspections.
Conducts routine and follow-up inspections of buildings, classrooms, laboratories and college facilities and ensures all problems discovered are corrected.
Creates, evaluates, coordinates and conducts various safety trainings.
Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, chemicals, water intrusion, and others accidents and prepares reports of findings and recommendations.
Leads and/or supervises the work of lower level safety technicians and/or student employees.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree and three (3) years of experience in occupational safety.

Preferences:

  • General Industry Outreach Trainer

  • Certifications for: OSHA #501, Machine Guarding, ElectricalStandards, Permit-Required Confined space, Fall Protection, and HAZWOPER.
