Job description

Job ID:  527321

CRH's Americas Materials division is the leading integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete and paving and construction services in North America. Our operations span North America with over 29,000 employees at close to 1,660 locations in 45 US States and 2 Canadian provinces.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced SAP Manager for the Construction Accounting workstream to lead the design, governance, and optimization of project accounting and job costing processes within SAP. This role will serve as the technology leader for Construction Accounting, bringing deep hands-on expertise in SAP Project System (PS) and proven experience integrating SAP with commercial project management, job costing, and bidding/estimating platforms such as Bid2Win. The candidate will drive alignment between Construction Operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Finance to ensure accurate job costing, reliable cost forecasting, and effective financial controls throughout the project lifecycle — from estimating and bid management through project execution and close-out.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Business Process Design & Improvement

  • Act as the primary business-facing process owner for Construction Accounting — spending regular, recurring time with business leads in Construction Operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Finance.
  • Partner directly with business stakeholders to understand gaps and pain points, translate business needs into functional requirements, and design scalable, efficient Construction Accounting processes.
  • Define and track KPIs and process performance metrics jointly with business owners, and report progress back to them on a regular cadence.
  • Establish and run a standing business process governance forum (e.g., monthly Construction Accounting process review) to surface emerging issues, prioritize backlog items, and keep process design decisions transparent and business-led.

Driving Design Workshops & Business Engagement

  • Own end-to-end workshop planning and delivery: define objectives, identify the right stakeholders, build the agenda, and drive the session to concrete, documented decisions and next steps.
  • Plan and facilitate requirements-gathering and process design workshops with cross-functional stakeholders across Construction Operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Finance — driving discussions toward decisions rather than open-ended brainstorming.
  • Run fit-gap and solution design sessions with business and technical teams, presenting options, trade-offs, and recommendations, and driving alignment on process decisions and configuration approaches.
  • Use visual facilitation techniques (process maps, whiteboarding, journey maps) in live sessions to help business stakeholders see and agree on the proposed design in real time.
  • Manage constructive conflict in workshops — surfacing and resolving competing priorities between functions (e.g., Construction Operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Finance) to reach a workable, business-endorsed outcome.

SAP Project Systems (PS) Strategy & Governance

  • Own the strategic direction, governance, and continuous improvement of SAP Project System capabilities supporting Construction Accounting and project financial management.
  • Establish and maintain enterprise standards for project structures, WBS hierarchies, networks, milestones, cost planning, budgeting, and project controls.
  • Partner with business and technology leaders to define the roadmap for SAP PS capabilities and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead the evaluation, prioritization, and delivery of enhancements that improve project visibility, cost control, forecasting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with financial controls, accounting standards, and governance requirements related to project accounting processes.

Commercial Project Systems & Systems Integration

  • Own hands-on design and support of integrations between SAP and commercial project management, job costing, and field operations systems.
  • Ensure the integrity, consistency, and reliability of project financial data across SAP and integrated business applications.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to improve business processes, system capabilities, and data quality related to project execution and financial management.
  • Oversee the prioritization and resolution of integration-related issues while coordinating with business stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams.
  • Drive the adoption of scalable, standardized integration solutions that support future business growth and transformation initiatives.

Estimating & Bid-to-Project Integration

  • Serve as the business process owner for bid-to-project integration, ensuring seamless, hands-on transition of estimating data into project execution and financial management processes.
  • Partner with Estimating, Operations, and Finance leadership to establish governance and standards for project setup, cost structures, and budget controls.
  • Ensure bid estimates, cost codes, production assumptions, and project budgets are accurately reflected within SAP and supporting systems.
  • Lead hands-on initiatives to configure and optimize integration between SAP and estimating platforms, including Bid2Win and related solutions.
  • Champion process improvements that enhance bid accuracy, project startup efficiency, forecasting reliability, and overall financial performance.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of SAP functional analysts/consultants supporting Construction Accounting.
  • Act as primary liaison between business stakeholders (Construction Operations, Project Management, Estimating, Finance) and technical teams.
  • Manage vendor and implementation partner relationships for Construction Accounting-related projects and integrations.
  • Prepare and present status updates, roadmaps, and risk assessments to senior leadership.

Project & Change Management

  • Lead SAP Construction Accounting enhancement projects, upgrades, and rollouts, including requirements gathering, solution design, testing, and deployment.
  • Ensure proper documentation of business processes, configuration, and support procedures.
  • Drive adherence to change management, testing, and release governance standards.
  • Support audits and ensure compliance/internal controls across Construction Accounting processes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of overall SAP experience, with 5+ years in a managerial or team lead capacity.
  • Strong hands-on functional experience with SAP Project System (PS), including project definition, WBS, networks, milestones, cost planning, and budgeting.
  • Hands-on experience integrating SAP PS with commercial project management, job costing, and bidding/estimating platforms such as Bid2Win.
  • Hands-on experience integrating SAP PS with FI/CO to ensure accurate project financial postings and reporting.
  • Experience supporting job costing, cost forecasting, and project financial controls throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA Project System and related project financial capabilities.
  • SAP certification(s) in Project System (PS) or related modules.
  • Direct hands-on experience with Bid2Win or similar bidding/estimating platforms.
  • Experience in the construction, engineering, or heavy civil industries.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum delivery environment.
  • Prior experience in a shared services or global SAP Center of Excellence (COE) model.

Key Competencies

  • Strong analytical mindset with close attention to cost accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration across Construction Operations, Estimating, Project Management, and Finance.
  • Proactive problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Clear, effective communicator across all levels of the organization.
