Project Engineer - HVAC

Position Overview

As a Project Engineer - HVAC, you'll support assigned commercial HVAC, plumbing, and controls projects by serving as a key liaison between clients, project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure safe, accurate, and smooth execution. You'll assist in project startup, documentation, submittals, RFIs, change orders, quality control, and closeout while maintaining compliance with codes, specifications, and company standards. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management.
  • Support the bid turnover and project startup process, including blueprint/specifications review, proposal/project requirements coordination, and materials procurement.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, federal/state laws, applicable codes, practices, quality control, safety, performance standards, and specifications.
  • Actively utilize project management software and company network to meet all project requirements for documenting, measuring, tracking, and resolving project issues.
  • Maintain and manage online project document postings utilizing Procore.
  • Establish and maintain project management files and drawing sets.
  • Develop and track Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Research, acquire, and collate submittals and operations amp; maintenance manual materials.
  • Assist with job billing preparation and substantiations.
  • Track correspondence and consolidate meeting notes and minutes from multiple sources.
  • Assist in reviewing project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards.
  • Assist in preparing project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommend actions.
  • Assist with material requisition, submittal compilation, purchase orders, on-site job walk-throughs, change orders, request for information, and close-out documents.
  • Assist in setting up projects in relevant software applications, working with project managers, on-site foremen, and general contractors on assigned work.
  • Assist in determining project responsibilities and coordinating the project team; field supervision, project resources, and support department staff.
  • Work with the Production and Field teams; Project Managers, Site Superintendents, and Field Staff.
  • Assist in monitoring project planning, execution, and closure, and all project functions as they relate to quality control and project management.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety of the project.
  • Follow up on requested items from outside sources.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with vendors and clients.
  • Assist Project Managers with additional tasks as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities None (support role focused on project engineering and coordination; may involve guiding or mentoring junior staff or interns as needed).

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience: Recent graduates with engineering degrees who have relevant experience or strong interest in commercial HVAC/mechanical systems are encouraged to apply. Candidates with 1–5 years of progressive experience in construction, project engineering, or related fields (preferably HVAC/mechanical) are also welcome.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; OSHA 10/30-hour certification encouraged (company support provided).
  • Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with frequent job-site visits; ability to walk active construction sites, climb ladders/stairs, lift light materials (plans, laptop), and travel regionally as needed; standard office mobility for computer work and meetings.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Professional office with hybrid options and active construction sites; exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, heights; must adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots) on sites—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position.
