Work Week: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Monday โ€“ Friday or Tuesday โ€“ Saturday; Minimum 32 hours, Maximum 40 hours


Job Summary

The Summer Construction Intern will support the completion of the BOCES built Habitat house. Through hands on assistance the interns will finish the framing, basic electrical and plumbing tasks, along with general site construction tasks. This paid summer internship is designed for individuals interested in gaining real world construction experience while learning safe jobsite practices and building foundational trade skills under supervision. Ideal candidates will be enrolled in a Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES (WFL BOCES) construction trade program and will have already worked on the house during their time at WFL BOCES.


This is an 8-week internship running approximately July 6 through August 29. Work will primarily take place at the BOCES-built house located in Geneva; however, travel to other locations may occasionally be required based on project needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic carpentry work such as framing, porch flooring and railing, drywall patching, and painting
  • Support simple plumbing tasks including material installation, repairs, and jobsite preparation (non licensed work only)
  • Assist with basic electrical tasks such as device installation, panel work, service installation
  • Perform other general construction laborer duties
  • Follow all jobsite safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, and company policies
  • Use hand tools and basic power tools safely and correctly
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area
  • Work closely with supervisors and skilled tradespeople to learn proper techniques and workflows
  • Be willing to tackle other duties as assigned


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • High school student or college student, enrolled in a construction related course
  • Interest in construction, building trades, or facilities maintenance
  • Basic familiarity with hand tools is necessary, additional training will be provided
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and perform a variety of tasks
  • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance required


Physical Requirements

  • Work may require climbing ladders and engaging in prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently across various surfaces, with heavier items lifted using appropriate equipment or assistance as needed.
  • Work is performed on active construction sites and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.
