Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Controller to join a growing heavy construction equipment dealership operating across the Northeast United States and Toronto, Canada. This role is a key member of the finance leadership team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, managing the month-end close process, and overseeing core accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and floorplan financing.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will lead and develop a team of 3–4 accounting professionals while supporting strategic financial initiatives across multi-location operations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, leadership experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
Compensation:

Job Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and deliver accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
  • Oversee financial reporting for US and Canadian operations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Manage and improve the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls to ensure financial integrity and safeguard company assets
  • Coordinate year-end audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
  • Administer and reconcile floorplan financing, including lender coordination and inventory tracking
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing, collections, and cash flow optimization
  • Monitor AR aging and vendor relationships, resolving discrepancies and minimizing financial risk
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 3–4 accounting staff, fostering a high-performance culture
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local tax regulations
  • Collaborate with operations, sales, and leadership teams to align financial performance with business objectives
  • Manage cross-border accounting processes, including foreign currency and intercompany transactions
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP; familiarity with Canadian GAAP/IFRS is a plus
  • Proven experience managing financial reporting and month-end close processes
  • Experience with floorplan financing or similar inventory financing structures preferred
  • Proficiency with ERP or dealership management systems (e.g., CDK, Procede, SAP, or similar)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred:
  • CPA designation (active or inactive) strongly preferred
  • Experience in heavy equipment, automotive, trucking, or dealership environments
  • Experience managing multi-location and cross-border (US/Canada) accounting operations
  • Demonstrated ability to improve accounting systems and internal controls
