Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
  • Manager, Facilities & Engineering for Trinity Health Ann Arbor (THAA)
  • Provides administrative oversight to Facilities and Engineering Division for Trinity Health Ann Arbor. This position provides industry-leading guidance on the planning, design and construction of capital projects in concert with Planning and Construction Services division leadership, respectively.
  • The Manager assures assigned areas are managed in accordance with hospital goals and policies. Oversee administration of operating budget and directs corrective actions in response to significant budget variances. Approves and oversees purchase of products and equipment, as well as equipment maintenance contracts, for subordinate departments. Assures alignment between Facilities operations and development are consistent with Trinity Health strategic goals and objectives.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, Construction Management, HVAC, or similar with desired concentration in Business Administration.
  • Equivalency in industry leadership is considered in lieu of formal degreed individual (10 years in leadership minimum).

Experience:
  • Approximately ten years progressively more responsible leadership experience in health care facilities and capital project fields, thorough knowledge of applicable codes and regulations of accrediting and governmental bodies.
  • Experience negotiating major operational equipment contracts; represent THAA to public and interact effectively with influential THAA and external personnel including contractors, regulatory agency personnel, legislators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures THAA is maintained in a safe, efficient, orderly and otherwise proper operating condition.
  • Formulates and approves short and long-term goals, objectives, plans and budgets for all Facilities and Engineering functions and activities. Works with managers to develop fiscal year goals, objectives and budgets. Upon approval, oversees implementation of and monitors adherence to same, initiating corrective action, as necessary.
  • Ensures THAA complies with all federal, state and local safety, Environment of Care issues, pollution control and environmental protection legislation and compliance requirements, safety and quality improvements, as well as numerous related reports as required by authorities having jurisdiction and prepared by subordinate supervisors and managers.
  • Oversees, updates revisions and implementation of Trinity Health site and facilities master plan.
  • Provides leadership for plant-related capital construction projects.
  • Conducts complex and detailed cost/benefit studies and based on analyses, recommends improvements, including construction or renovation of structures, and purchase of new equipment based on personal inspection of departments and Trinity Health budgets.
  • Regularly participates in development of Trinity Health-wide plans, goals, and objectives as a member of the management team assembly and various leadership committees.
  • Responsible for developing, securing approval of, and implementing department policies and procedures.
  • Performance of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical repairs as well as internal and external painting to ensure equipment and facilities are maintained in proper working order.
  • Operating heating, cooling and other energy generation equipment to assure THAA facilities are able to perform functions without impairment.
  • Maintaining energy management systems across THAA at optimal cost and service quality levels.
  • Regulatory and compliance for EOC and other authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Negotiates with vendors and awards large equipment maintenance contracts, large supply orders, major equipment purchases and the like.
  • Reviews requests for and approves purchases of Facilities and Engineering's major operational items.
  • Oversee preparation of various records and reports and regularly evaluate progress toward THAA goals and objectives.
  • Represents THAA to outside government or accreditation agencies on Facilities and Engineering/EOC and compliance matters.
