What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Vision Developer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Computer Vision Developer, you need a solid background in computer science, linear algebra, and experience with machine learning frameworks, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications. Familiarity with programming languages like Python or C++, and tools such as OpenCV, TensorFlow, or PyTorch, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork skills help you innovate and deliver robust solutions. These competencies are crucial for developing, optimizing, and deploying advanced visual recognition systems that meet real-world application needs.

What are some common challenges faced by Computer Vision Developers in deploying models to production environments?

Computer Vision Developers often encounter challenges such as optimizing models for real-time performance, handling diverse and noisy data from real-world sources, and ensuring models are robust across various hardware platforms. Integrating computer vision solutions into existing systems may require close collaboration with DevOps and backend engineers to address issues like latency, scalability, and security. Staying updated with rapidly evolving frameworks and hardware accelerators is also essential to maintain high-quality deployments.

What is a Computer Vision Developer?

A Computer Vision Developer is a software engineer who specializes in creating applications and systems that can interpret and process visual information from the world, such as images or videos. They use techniques from artificial intelligence and machine learning to enable computers to identify objects, track movements, and understand scenes. Their work powers technologies such as facial recognition, autonomous vehicles, and augmented reality. Typically, they have expertise in programming languages like Python or C++, and are familiar with frameworks such as OpenCV or TensorFlow.

What is the difference between Computer Vision Developer vs Machine Learning Engineer?

AspectComputer Vision DeveloperMachine Learning Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in CS, specialized in computer vision or image processingBachelor's or Master's in CS, data science, or related fields with ML focus
Work EnvironmentDevelops algorithms for image/video analysis, often in tech, automotive, or healthcare industriesBuilds models for various data types, including images, text, and structured data across industries
Employer & Industry UsageTech companies, robotics, automotive, healthcareTech firms, startups, finance, healthcare, and research institutions

While both roles involve machine learning techniques, Computer Vision Developers specialize in image and video analysis, whereas Machine Learning Engineers work on broader data modeling across multiple data types. The roles often overlap but differ in focus and application areas.

Job description

About Us

At Intramotev, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the freight industry by liberating tons of freight from congested highways, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing transportation efficiency. We are deploying self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles to transform freight logistics and bring innovation to our rail network.

Based in St. Louis, MO, we are committed to promoting industrial revitalization, saving lives, and minimizing the environmental impact of trucking and transportation. Find your future with us.

Role Overview

We are seeking a CAD Administrator to support and maintain our Autodesk design ecosystem — Inventor and Vault Professional — for the mechanical engineering team developing self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles. You will help manage our product structure, engineering release processes, and CAD database under the direction of the Director of Engineering. This is a hands-on systems-administration and data-governance role with room to grow into full process ownership as the team scales.

This is a full-time, 100% in-office role based in St. Louis, MO. You'll work within a team of 3–10 engineers and engage in occasional domestic travel (<10%) for integration and customer engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product Structure Support: Maintain the master product structure and bill of materials (BOM) within Autodesk Inventor and Vault, escalating architectural questions to the engineering lead.

  • Release Process Execution: Execute the engineering release flow, ensuring mechanical designs meet company standards before transitioning to production.

  • Data Integrity: Maintain the CAD database, applying version control, naming conventions, and data archival processes established by the team.

  • System Administration: Support the configuration and day-to-day operation of Autodesk Inventor and Vault Professional for the mechanical engineering team.

  • Standardization: Maintain and improve company CAD standards, templates, and libraries to streamline the design process.

  • Lifecycle Support: Provide technical support regarding CAD/PDM tools and troubleshoot modeling or database issues.

  • Collaboration: Work with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure CAD data and BOMs are accurately reflected in our Odoo ERP system.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $75,000–$100,000

Equity: Equity grant included

Intramotev offers a comprehensive benefits package for all team members, including:

  • Medical coverage: We cover 100% of employee medical premiums, plus low-cost dental and vision options.

  • Vacation: Full-time employees enjoy unlimited paid time off.

  • Equity: Full-time employees receive equity in the company.

  • Parental leave: New parents receive paid time off to spend quality time with their family.

About You:Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Associate's Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with Autodesk Inventor and Vault Professional (formal CAD admin title not required — power-user experience counts).

  • Familiarity with product structures, revision control, and engineering change processes.

  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches.

  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as an individual contributor.

  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.

  • U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:

  • Experience configuring Vault Professional (server setup, lifecycle definitions, revision schemes, custom properties).

  • Experience integrating CAD/PDM data with ERP systems (Odoo experience a plus).

  • Knowledge of GD&T and design for manufacturing principles.

  • Experience in the Rail, Electric Vehicle (EV), or Unmanned Systems industries.

  • Experience working in Agile environments for hardware development.

Typical Education and Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through technical education (e.g. Associate's or Bachelor's) and typically 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.

Relocation

Competitive relocation package for qualified candidates.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Intramotev is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, genetic factors, military/veteran status or other characteristics protected by law.
