  • Position: 1.00 FTE Evening shift Surgical Technologist
  • Schedule: Work four 10-hour evening shifts each week, 1100-2130
  • Unit: 21 Main OR suites, 2 CVOR, and 2 hybrid
  • Special Features: Robotics, Da Vinci Robots IV and 5
  • Hospital: PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, Oregon

  • Location: Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend is a beautiful 350-bed acute care hospital with level II trauma center, that is situated along the Mckenzie River in Springfield, Oregon. Located an hour from the Pacific Ocean and 2 hours South of Portland, Oregon, Springfield and its sister city Eugene are adventure-driven destinations. Find yourself hiking to spectacular waterfalls, enjoying the nearby ocean beaches, rafting and kayaking in white water, cycling through wine country or along the many miles of bicycle paths. We have one of the most desirable locations in the Pacific Northwest to live, work, and play. In addition to year around outdoor activities, you'll find a wide array of educational opportunities, cultural activities, and sporting events, at the University of Oregon, Museums of Art and Natural History, and the Hult Center for Performing Arts.

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.
Details of the position:
  • Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.
  • Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
  • Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
  • Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
  • Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you bring:
  • Required: Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program AND a current Surgical Technologist Certification from nationally accredited certifying organization for surgical technologists.
  • In lieu of above, will consider :
    • 1) completion of a US Military Surgical Technologist Training Program and must complete 16 hours of continuing education every two years Or 2) for those who have practiced surgical technology in a health care facility in Oregon or another state or as an employee of an agency or institution of the federal government for at least two of the three years prior to January 1, 2017, certification is not required but caregiver must complete 16 hours of continuing education every two years.

  • Required: Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification
  • Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs
  • Preferred: 1 year Experience as a surgical technologist in a full-service operating room

Skills
  • Well organized, detail oriented and self-motivated (Required)
  • Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others (Required)
  • Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision (Required)
  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications (Required)
  • Understanding of operating room protocols (Required)

Working Conditions:
Lifting
  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
