Position Summary:

The Sr Building Technology Systems Director acts as the national business leader for Building Technology Systems (BTS), a Strategic Growth Services business unit responsible for operational technology (OT) systems integration consulting, cybersecurity consulting specific to operational technology, telecommunications design consulting, electronic safety and security design consulting. Providing leadership in the development of building technology strategies that meet an owner's business and operational needs. The Sr Building Technology Systems Director sets the strategic direction for the company, manages investment decisions, and drives innovation across all service lines. Accountable for establishing, scaling, and leading the national Building Technology Systems practice, including business performance, talent strategy, technical excellence, and market growth.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, security management, or a related field required. Master's degree or higher in fields related to building technology, cybersecurity, or business administration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience across telecommunications design, electronic safety and security design, operational technology, OT cybersecurity, or physical security consulting required, with at least 7 years in a leadership or management role with a proven track record of technical excellence, business unit growth, and strategic influence preferred.
  • Relevant experience in providing consultancy services to building owners and operators across Building Technology Systems is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure, electronic safety and security systems and operational technology principles required.
  • Proficiency in network design, OT/IT network architecture, and solutions architecture required.
  • Relevant certifications, such as PE, RCDD, CISSP, PSP, or CPP, reflecting depth of expertise across the BTS service lines required preferred.
  • Experience with integrated building management systems (IBMS), building automation systems (BAS), SCADA systems, access control and video surveillance platforms, and premise/outside plant telecommunications infrastructure required.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity practices and risk assessment methodologies specific to operational technology environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., NIST, IEC 62443, ISO 27001, BICSI, TIA/EIA, NFPA 730/731, UL 2050, NEC, IBC) required.
  • Proficiency with relevant software tools, including Bluebeam Revu, network/security design platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite required.

  • Lead annual internal business planning and strategy sessions to set growth goals.
  • Develop and execute the financial strategy to meet financial and performance goals.
  • Provide strategic direction to the company around Building Technology Systems, shaping organizational goals, growth targets, execution plans, and investment strategies to advance the company's position in the industry.
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and standards related to building technology systems, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and corporate guidelines.
  • Collaborate with sector and organizational leadership to align building technology systems approaches with company-wide strategies and initiatives

Building Technology Strategy & Innovation:

  • Drive innovation in Building Technology Systems by staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methodologies to enhance the company's service offerings and competitive edge.
  • Develop long-term strategy for the adoption and integration of advanced building technology systems within the company's projects and services.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and thought leadership activities to promote its expertise in Building Technology Systems.

Building Technology Solutions:

  • Oversee the identification and quantification of problems experienced by building operators and owners.
  • Lead the team in gathering stakeholder needs and synthesizing them into clear, actionable visions.
  • Coordinate Building Technology Systems with building owners, owner representatives, General Contractor teams, and Commissioning agents.
  • Promote, educate, and consult on the integration of intelligent building systems to enhance overall building performance and client value.
  • Lead the development and implementation of consulting strategies specific to operational technology environments.
  • Evaluate, validate, and select appropriate vendor platforms and tools that meet solution needs.

Client Relations & Business Development:

  • Leverage opportunities and relationships internally across Henderson Companies and externally across the industry to develop business growth.
  • Lead the development, establishment, and maintenance of relationships with strategic partners and customers in support of and to expand business opportunities.
  • Lead and provide input on client engagement strategies, project pursuits, and project execution.
  • Represent Henderson Companies at client, company, and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Drive collaboration with HEI sectors and HBS teams to develop, define, and execute company-wide strategies.
  • Earn the trust of senior leaders at client organizations and partner with them to create strategic solutions at the intersection of business, technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, physical safety & security, and facility operations.
  • Build relationships with clients to raise Henderson Companies' profile as long-term trusted advisor and partner.
  • Develop and strengthen the Building Technology Systems business and role as a thought leader by creating content and taking part in professional forums, both internal and external.
  • Resolve conflicts involving clients, architects, contractors, and facility managers related to building technology systems matters.
  • Align technical execution to streamline client experience and maximize client satisfaction.

Team Leadership & Technical Excellence:

  • Establish goal planning for team members and conduct recurring check-ins.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team and organization.
  • Demonstrate an organization-wide mindset, cooperating across sector and operations teams to collectively meet organizational goals.
  • Mentor and develop staff to build a strong succession pipeline across the Building Technology Systems disciplines.
  • Ensure technical execution aligns with organization-wide technical expertise and capabilities.
  • Empower team members to deal with ambiguity and maintain consistent standards of service and results.
  • Engage resources in response to areas in need of improvement, fostering a culture of quality.
