Job description

About the Company:

Qumulo is the simple way to manage exabyte-scale data anywhere edge, core, or cloud on the platform of your choice. In a world with trillions of files and objects comprising 100+ zettabytes worldwide, companies need a solution that combines the ability to work anywhere with simplicity. This is precisely what Qumulo was founded to accomplish.

At Qumulo, we are building an open and collaborative culture where people can do their best work with customers as our magnetic field. We act as owners, we share by default, we are data driven and experimental and as an inclusive workplace, we encourage and celebrate multiple points of view. As part of our culture we believe diversity drives innovation.

About the Role

Platform Operations Engineering is responsible for validating, certifying, and releasing OEM/ODM hardware platforms that power Qumulo software.

As a Systems Engineer 1, you will focus on system-level hardware validation, qualification, and complex issue resolution across enterprise storage platforms. You will operate under the guidance of the Platforms Lead, who defines validation strategy and program priorities, while you drive execution with strong technical ownership.

This role serves as the internal Level 3 escalation resource for hardware-related issues. While not directly customer-facing, you will partner closely with Customer Success, Support Engineering, and Field teams to reproduce failures, conduct structured root cause analysis, and ensure customer requirements are met through timely, data-driven resolution.

This position is based in Seattle, WA and requires in-office collaboration 23 days per week to support lab validation, platform bring-up, and cross-functional coordination.

This is a high-impact execution role with a clear path for growth based on performance and demonstrated ownership over time.

What Youll Do
  • Execute system-level hardware validation plans for new platform introductions (NPI) and sustaining programs.
  • Perform system-level bring-up and qualification of enterprise storage platforms (servers, JBODs, and edge systems).
  • Act as the internal Level 3 escalation point for complex hardware-related issues impacting customers.
  • Reproduce field issues in lab environments and lead structured root cause analysis using logs, telemetry, and system diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with Customer Success and Support teams to translate field issues into actionable investigations.
  • Drive resolution efforts with OEM/ODM partners and contract manufacturers, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and validated.
  • Conduct performance, stress, thermal, reliability, and compatibility testing across CPUs, SSDs, HDDs, networking interfaces, memory subsystems, and PCIe devices.
  • Develop and enhance automated validation and diagnostic tools to improve coverage and efficiency.
  • Produce validation reports, failure analysis documentation, and release readiness artifacts.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in platform quality and escalation workflows.
What Were Looking For
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, plus 45 years of relevant hardware validation or platform engineering experience (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience working with enterprise storage or server-class hardware platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in an internal Level 3 or advanced troubleshooting capacity.
  • Strong system-level debugging and failure isolation skills.
  • Experience collaborating with OEMs/ODMs and contract manufacturers.
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments; scripting experience (Python preferred) is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze logs, firmware traces, and system telemetry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The annual pay range for the role is USD $98,000- $138,000 USD

Individual pay depends on various factors, such as role level, relevant experience and skills. Pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the pay range applicable at the time.

Benefits & Perks:
  • Pre-IPO stock options
  • Flexible time-off policy
  • HSA and PPO health insurance options
  • Dental and Vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan
  • Choice of an ORCA card or parking subsidy
