The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a highly motivated System Administrator to support IT operations within a local operational boundary consisting of both interconnected systems and standalone devices in the Component & Chemistry Technology - Chemistry Technology organization located at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin, PA. The organization is responsible for support and development of automated chemistry equipment at the laboratory and in the fleet. This position focuses on system configuration, administration, compliance, maintenance, and technical documentation in a Windows-based environment. The successful candidate will work with applications and tools such as Group Policy, HBSS/ESS, managed device security software, various engineering software, firewalls, system compliance utilities, and system hardware. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills and the capability to maintain stable, secure, and compliant systems. Candidates will support a technically diverse environment and contribute to the reliability and readiness of systems that support critical operations

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience Administering, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows operating systems and associated infrastructure. Managing Group Policy Objects (GPOs), host-based firewalls, and endpoint compliance tools to ensure consistent system configuration. Knowledge or experience with HBSS/ESS or similar host-level security/compliance platforms. Performing system patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation activities to maintain system health and compliance. Supporting standalone and boundary-specific workstations and devices while ensuring proper configuration and operational readiness.

Conducting hardware/software compliance checks, certification reviews, and baseline

enforcement. Performing workflow analysis, documenting test results, and developing or updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Troubleshooting issues related to operating systems, applications, and system utilities, and coordinating with engineering or development personnel as needed. Participating in projects to deploy, upgrade, or enhance infrastructure, applications, or system components. Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, system configurations, and automation scripts or utilities as required. Providing subject matter expertise on system configuration and operational processes across the local boundary. Prioritizing multiple tasks/projects, regularly adjust work planning, and integrate work responsibilities within the organization and site. Participate in projects that implement application or systems solutions ensuring timely delivery of functional, technical and security requirements. Understanding of system architectures.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Cisco network hardware. Experience with the installation, configuration, and management of VMware virtual system. Vulnerability Management experience. Experience creating and maintaining scripts (Powershell). Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Positive attitude and strong teaming background. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and problem solve. Strong work ethic and desire to learn. Basic proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (preferably LabVIEW; for understanding, not necessarily heavy coding) Experience administering and configuring Windows OS environments, Group Policy, system hardening, and host-based firewalls. Familiarity with system compliance assessments, vulnerability management, and patch management workflows. Experience with

standalone, isolated, or segmented network environments. Technical writing skills, including SOPs, system documentation, and test result summaries. Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to evolving work priorities, often including emergent efforts. Experience supporting hardware/software certification reviews or baseline compliance checks. Project management experience.
