CAD Technician

Position Summary
The CAD Technician is responsible for digitizing and maintaining fabric and leather patterns within the CAD system to support efficient cutting and production processes. This role develops CAD models, variants, markers, and cost data to ensure optimal material utilization and accurate costing. In addition, the role will work closely with engineering and production to develop instructions for marking, cutting, and sewing operations.
Approximately 33% of the role focuses on collaborating with production to support changes to existing CAD patterns, optimizing use of Lectra automated cutting equipment, and system management, while 66% supports Product Development by digitizing new styles, patterns, and product files during the development process. This position is well suited for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working with computer systems, and has strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Prior CAD experience is prefered but not required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • CAD Pattern Development & Management
  • Digitize all fabric and leather patterns into the CAD system.
  • Develop and maintain CAD models, variants, and markers for each active style.
  • Provide cost data for patterns and cutting kits for all developed styles.
  • Maintain CAD system organization including daily backups and file management.
  • Assist Product Development and Engineering with digitizing new style patterns, files, and components.
  • Support Engineering with updates and revisions to developed styles.
  • Help implement improvements to style patterns and CAD files during the development process.

Cross-Functional Support
  • Assist Cutting, Sewing, and Upholstery departments with daily CAD and pattern-related needs.
  • Collaborate with Lectra cutting team to improve equipment efficiency and maintain program file structure.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product Development teams to improve pattern efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or associate degree preferred.
  • Experience working with computers, data, or technical systems strongly preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing, furniture, textiles, or pattern development is a plus but not required.
  • Previous CAD experience is a plus but not required.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong computer skills and ability to quickly learn new software systems.
  • Physical ability to lift fabric rolls that weight up to 50 lbs. daily.
  • Strong understanding of measurements and basic math concepts.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to problem-solve and improve efficiency.
  • Strong organizational and data management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineering and production teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools preferred.
