Position Summary:
Schafer Industries is currently seeking a 1st shift CNC Lathe Machinist for its Schafer Gear Works operation in Roscoe, IL. Currently offering $1,000 sign on Bonus, Walk-In Interviews welcome.

Job Summary:
Set-up and operate CNC Lathe Machines to meet production and quality requirements.
Essential Job Functions:
Operate assigned machinery to fabricate parts to the required specifications by:
  • Reading work orders and specification sheets.
  • Properly powering up and down the machine.
  • Loading and unloading parts.
  • Ensuring proper tooling for each machine.
  • Creating and sizing jaws on the machine.
  • Changing chucking devices when necessary.
  • Recognizing insert and tool geometry.
  • Making offset adjustments for size.

Ensures all parts are to the required specifications by:
  • Reading blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Verifying conformance of finished work piece specifications.
  • Complying with all work instructions.
  • Following and maintaining ISO and Schafer procedures.
  • Completing Schafer's quality certification requirements for assigned area.

Ensure the operational effectiveness of all assigned equipment by:
  • Adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Conferring with engineers, production personnel, and programmers to resolve machining problems

Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by:
  • Maintaining and continuously improving productivity of assigned machines.
  • Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points as guides.
  • Continuously looking at tool life and new tooling to cut costs on tools.
  • Reducing downtime of machines setups.
  • Getting computer setup ready by preparing tooling, fixtures, steel, gages, etc.
  • Maintaining the 6S program in assigned area.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position, including the ability to walk, stand, lift, carry up to 50 pounds, push, kneel, bend, stoop, reach over and under waist level, twist for extended periods of time on cement or other hard surfaces, etc.
  • Demonstrates the verbal and written communication skills necessary to complete forms and take messages in a legible, accurate manner.
  • CNC Machinist - 2 years (preferred)Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Ability to use a computer.

Working Conditions:
  • Air conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with possible exposure to noise; dust; fumes; physical, chemical, and biohazards; solvents, oils, and detergents.
  • This job is to be performed at the designated facility 100% of the time unless directed otherwise by manager/supervisor.
