Laboratory Services Manager – Construction Materials Testing & Special Inspection

For over 50 years, STRATA has provided geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, and construction materials testing services throughout the Intermountain West. We currently have offices in Boise, Post Falls, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and Pocatello, Idaho, as well as Salt Lake City, Utah.

Position Summary

STRATA is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to lead laboratory operations for construction materials testing services in Idaho Falls, Idaho. This role is responsible for day-to-day laboratory performance, technical quality, staff development, client service, equipment readiness, accreditation requirements, and timely delivery of accurate test results and reports.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical experience in construction materials testing, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to mentor a team while supporting client and project needs across STRATA offices.


What You’ll Do

  • Manage laboratory services, including the safe execution, analysis, communication, and reporting of laboratory test results.
  • Ensure laboratory deliverables are timely, accurate, fiscally responsible, and of high quality.
  • Maintain equipment, accreditations, calibrations, certifications, laboratory cleanliness, and overall laboratory appearance.
  • Perform work in accordance with STRATA’s Quality Management System and applicable laboratory testing protocols.
  • Coordinate with managers, departments, and offices to provide exceptional service to internal and external clients.
  • Perform testing, inspections, laboratory work, and project management duties as workload requires.
  • Hire, lead, mentor, and develop employees while supporting professional growth and managing risk and liability.
  • Model STRATA’s core values and build a cohesive team that works well together and meets or exceeds goals.


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in construction services and construction materials testing laboratory work.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing laboratory or technical staff.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory testing procedures, quality control, safety practices, and client service expectations.
  • Ability to manage priorities, communicate clearly, and deliver accurate work in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to comply with STRATA’s drug and alcohol policy and uphold STRATA’s core values.
  • Ability to travel out of town and work overtime, weekends, and holidays when project work requires.


Certifications

  • Must have the following industry certifications or the ability to obtain them within 90 days: In-Place Density Testing Technician, Embankment and Base Testing Technician, Concrete Testing Technician, Sampling, Reduction, and Density Testing Technician, Aggregate Testing Technician, Asphalt Testing Technician, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, and Laboratory Testing Technician.
  • ACI, ICC, WAQTC, State Transportation, and Portable Nuclear Gauge Safety certifications are highly relevant to this role.


Work Environment and Schedule

This position may require hands-on laboratory work, field or project support, travel between offices or project locations, overtime, weekends, and holidays, depending on project needs. Safety, professionalism, and quality are essential expectations for this role.
