Job description

Position Title: Food Service Cook/Supervisor
Funding: Federal Grant
Department: Coeur d’Alene Tribal School, DeSmet Idaho
Supervisor: Principal/ Superintendent
Salary: DOE/Q
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the planning, preparation, and serving of nutritious, primarily home-cooked, breakfasts and lunches to students and staff at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal School in accordance with policies and procedures of the USDA and BIA.
  • Work from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm to implement the food service program in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Plans and implements monthly menus according to USDA nutrition guidelines including meals that are both nutritious and culturally relevant to Native American students.
  • Order, receive, organize, and store food in a safe, sanitary manner.
  • Provides plans for the maintenance and upkeep of kitchen equipment and machinery.
  • Supervises the assistant cook in the daily conduct of all duties, including but not limited to washing of kitchen cooking utensils as well as school eating utensils in shifts as necessary to maintain enough supplies for all lunch shifts.
  • Collects daily lunch counts for daily food preparation and keeps daily student lunch count data for monthly reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for food inventorying and daily food logs.
  • Completes all required paperwork and reports, including USDA reimbursements and Summer Food Program will report to appropriate agencies via computer input.
  • Responsible for submitting monthly meal calendars to the Tribal School Board and parents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must show the highest professional standards and promote a positive image of the Tribe and its administration at all times.
Qualifications:
  • Must pass an extensive background check prior to employment and every 5th consecutive year of employment thereafter according to the following: §25 CFR 12 Part 32, §25 CFR 63 Part 17, and Public Law 101-647. Must not have any offenses related to abuse, Domestic Violence, neglect, endangerment, or theft/deception/fraud;
  • No misdemeanor/felony offenses related to controlled substances of alcohol or drugs past 10 years.
  • Must support the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s: vision, mission, and core values per Coeur d’Alene Tribal Resolution 015(2020).
  • Must comply with all Health policies established by the Tribe or department, including the annual flu shot.
  • Must have received or be willing to receive a tuberculosis test and other health tests and vaccinations as required by law.
  • Must be trained in “Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point-HACCP” (or willing to be trained).
  • Must be working towards or already certified in SNA-School Nutrition Association formerly known as ASFSA-American School Food Service Association.
  • Must willingly and regularly attend state training provided by CNP State Agency.
  • Must be familiar with “Nutri-Kids Program.”
  • Must have computer skills for “Child Nutrition Program 2000” for reimbursement.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of grant writing, record keeping, and USDA reporting requirements.
  • Must possess a Food Handler’s/Service Card.

  • Ability to organize, plan, schedule, file, collect, and maintain data, complete reports and submit using computer technology and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply nutritional standards set by USDA.
  • Demonstrated ability to get along and cooperate well with others, especially co-workers.
  • Ability to perform the duties required consistently and proficiently.
  • Must be in good health to meet the physical demands of the job, including regularly sitting, talking, hearing, standing, walking, and reaching above shoulders with hands and arms with reasonable accommodation for disabilities.
  • Must maintain absolute confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to work with behaviorally challenging students.
  • Salary dependent on experience.
