Job description

Culinary Program Manager

This position will maintain a state-of-the-art culinary experience by planning, modifying, and monitoring program success on-site. Lead in all matters related to the preparation and delivery of meals. Ensure delicious and nutritious meals are provided daily to support student learning and achievement. Direct and sustain advancements in areas including, but not limited to: compliance, customer service, planning, preparation, and delivery. Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance the quality of menu planning and food production. Partner with mentors, interns, and community members to advocate for healthier and flavorful meals for students. Prepare reports and maintain records in accordance with USDA, CDE, and district policies. Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of site staff. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders.

Provide excellent customer service. Prepare and serve healthy, nutritious, and appetizing breakfast and lunch to stakeholders. Cashier and student account management. Accurate recording of reimbursable meals using the point-of-sale system. Ensure proper food storage in accordance with federal, state, and local nutritional standards and guidelines. Receive orders through online system, order food and maintain inventory control, request equipment repair, and supply services when needed. Ensure site, equipment, and textile cleanliness/sanitation in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines and regulations, including the HACCP program. Complete, assess for accuracy, and submit production records by or before due dates. Collaborate with the Director, parents, and the site to support and encourage student accounts to remain current. Evaluate and recommend to ensure that the highest quality, greatest value, and most nutritious, appetizing food has been provided. Prepare flavorful, nutritious, and National School Lunch Program (NSLP)- compliant menus. Promote participation through marketing, stakeholder buy-in, taste tests, student involvement, etc. Provide continuous monitoring to ensure compliance with safety standards, on-time deliverables, and cost-effective operations. Administer benchmarks to ensure innovative strategies for continuous improvement are attained. Communicate and support school activities that encourage stakeholder involvement in student learning. Provide expertise and supervision when implementing standards. Participate in site audit, track/maintain inventory, and monitor purchases. Deliver quality, accurate, constructive, corrective, specific and timely feedback to employees that encourages them to perform at their highest level. Serve as leader by supporting and actively participating in professional development for staff. Demonstrate patience with stakeholders when implementing new systems, policies/procedures, etc. Attend conferences, trainings, and other professional development to remain current on nutrition matters. Establish stakeholder rapport that allows for a proactive response to potential problems. Address safety concerns by working with stakeholders to ensure compliance with district-wide safety and emergency protocols.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; goal setting, feedback, and employee evaluations; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently. Create and implement effective and efficient process management strategies (e.g., procedures, equipment, materials and supplies). Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.

Three (3) years successful nutrition/culinary/commercial food service management experience (preferred). Demonstrated experience in ordering, inventory control, calendaring, etc. Demonstrated experience in scratch-cooking, and production kitchens. Demonstrated experience adhering to and ensuring compliance with state and federal nutrition requirements, rules and regulations. Demonstrated experience training and coaching. Demonstrated experience supervising and evaluating employees. Bilingual (preferred). English fluency will be determined through the application and interview process.

Valid Colorado Driver's License. Must hold or be able to obtain a ServSafe Certification within 90 days of start date.

Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to change. Possesses computer and technology skills. Effectively works with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities. Collaborates well with supervisors and co-workers. Capable of understanding and following both complex oral and written instructions. Able to perform duties independently with minimal supervision. Communicates effectively with the School District community. Skilled in analysis, instruction, negotiation, coordination, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal interactions. Proficient in comparing, computing, synthesizing, and evaluating information. Meets attendance standards and works the necessary hours to fulfill essential responsibilities. Maintains confidentiality. Upholds a generally positive attitude. Complies with all District policies and procedures. Adheres to federal and state laws, regulations, and policies.

Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 35 (thirty-five) pounds. Occasional lifting of up to 75 (seventy-five) pounds, with assistance. Frequent bending, walking, standing, reaching, and hand and arm movements Occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Use hands to grasp, and fine manipulation. Eye/hand coordination (e.g., typing, ten key). Concentrated reading/writing/mathematics. Visual concentration on equipment. Speak, hear, smell and taste.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Regular exposure to odors, moisture (wet/humid), extreme heat and cold, and moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to extreme weather, hazardous materials, and bodily fluids. Mostly clean and comfortable.

Reports to: Director of Nutrition Services, Site Supervisor, and Principal.

Location: Charles Hay World School

Salary: Starting hourly rate $20.25 - $22.92 per hour, depending on education and related job experience.
