JOB DESCRIPTION

Job purpose

The Maintenance Technician performs routine and preventive maintenance throughout the manufacturing facility. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Starts machines and observes mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
  • Reads work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Inspects or tests damaged machine and marks defective areas or advises supervisors of repair needs.
  • Reassembles machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  • Dismantles machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Performs routine electrical maintenance and repair.
  • Determines causes of operating errors to troubleshoot equipment failures.
  • Responsible for building maintenance including grounds, roof repair and debris removal.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree in industrial maintenance field; 3+ years' experience considered in lieu of degree.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and its applications
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and electrical technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Attention to detail and good communication skills.

Preferred

  • Prior working experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment.

Working conditions

This job operates primarily in a plant environment but may also include work in the office and warehousing areas.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, bend, stoop, kneel and twist and lift up to 50 pounds; hold and operate air powered tools weighing up to 5 pounds. The employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods of time and use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The job is in a plant environment where the temperature can be hot or cold depending on the weather.Â
