Job Description: School District Technology Personnel
Reports To: Technology Coordinator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Contract Period: 240 Days
Job Purpose
School Technology Personnel provides high-level technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for the district's technology infrastructure. The primary goal is to ensure that students, teachers, and administrators have reliable access to the digital tools and networks necessary for modern instruction and efficient school operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Technical Proficiency: Extensive knowledge of computer hardware (PCs, Macs, Chromebooks) and mobile device management (MDM) platforms.
  • Software Expertise: Proficiency in Windows/Chrome/macOS, Google Workspace for Education, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Networking Basics: Fundamental understanding of LAN/WAN connectivity, Wi-Fi troubleshooting, and basic network cabling (Cat5e/Cat6).
  • Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users in a patient, helpful manner.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose complex hardware and software issues under pressure, often during critical testing windows.
  • Organization: Proven ability to manage a ticketing system, track inventory, and prioritize multiple tasks across different school sites.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in technology support, preferably in an educational or enterprise environment.
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+ or Google IT Support Professional Certificate preferred.
  • Special Requirements: Must hold a valid Mississippi Driver's License and be able to pass a background check as required by MS Code - 37-9-17.
  • Physical: Ability to lift at least 25-40 lbs (servers, monitors, boxes of devices) and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders or crawling under desks for wiring.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Technical Support: Serve as the first point of contact for school-level technical issues, resolving tickets related to hardware, software, and connectivity.
  2. Device Management: Install, configure, and maintain district devices, including student Chromebooks, interactive whiteboards, document cameras, and printers.
  3. Testing Support: Provide on-site technical assistance during state-mandated testing windows (MAAP) to ensure all devices and networks are functioning optimally.
  4. User Training: Conduct informal training sessions for staff and students on the proper use of new software, hardware, and digital safety practices.
  5. Infrastructure Maintenance: Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on network components, cabling, and audio-visual systems in classrooms and common areas.
  6. Inventory Control: Maintain an accurate database of all technology assets at the assigned site(s), ensuring equipment is tagged and tracked.
  7. System Security: Ensure all devices are updated with the latest security patches and adhere to district-wide Acceptable Use Policies (AUP).
  8. Collaboration: Work closely with the District Technology Coordinator to implement long-term technology plans and infrastructure upgrades.
