Job description

Job Overview:

Pay Range: $17.96hr - $18.45hr

Requirement/Must Have:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, and updating patient information.
  • Collect specimens for drug screens, paternity tests, and alcohol tests.
  • Perform data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Process billing information and collect payments when required.
  • Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis.
  • Maintain patient and specimen information logs.
  • Provide superior customer service to all patients.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties as necessary.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Maintain full understanding of all physician orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature and appropriate collection containers.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
