Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction of the Director of National Breeds and Non-FEI Disciplines, the Director of Hunters provides leadership and strategic direction for the USEF Hunter and Hunter/Jumper Equitation divisions. This role oversees competitions, pathway programs, operations management, and financial success of the Hunter program. The Director ensures alignment with national standards, cultivates excellence at all levels of competition, and positions the program as a leader with the Hunter industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working a flexible schedule with frequent night/weekend work and travel.
  • Developing and delivering, in partnership with other USEF staff, membership initiatives, and the promotion and growth of the sport, as well as athlete pathway programs.
  • Staying abreast of issues concerning sport while maintaining compliance and competitive success.
  • Developing and administering the budget for the Hunter discipline and sourcing revenues to initiate and support associated programs.
  • Supervises and manages relevant Hunter staff within the department.
  • Representing the organization at major national Hunter competitions and industry forums.
  • Oversee horse welfare initiatives and identify where improvements need to be made or promoted.
  • Serve as the liaison between USEF and USHJA.
  • Facilitating and maintaining effective communication within the discipline community, including sport newsletters and announcements.
  • Performing other duties/projects as assigned by the Director of National Breeds and Non-FEI Disciplines.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience in the equestrian sport industry required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent travel.
  • Extended hours of availability, including evenings and weekends.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. (25 pounds or more requires a two-person lift)
