Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Associate Dean and under the lead work direction of the CSBS Intervention and Retention Specialist, Peer Mentor Student Assistants assist in peer-to-peer mentoring and student success support to undergraduate students in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. Peer Mentor Student Assistants assist students with navigating university life, including academic planning, understanding university programs, policies, and procedures, and connecting with appropriate campus resources.
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, duties include but not limited to, providing support to professional staff in:
Peer Support Drop-Ins: Meet with students to provide peer-to-peer support, basic academic guidance, and assistance navigating university programs and processes.
Resource Referrals: Connect students with appropriate college and campus resources, including tutoring, academic advising, counseling and psychological services, basic needs assistance, financial aid, and student organizations.
Training and Professional Development: Participate in required training sessions and team meetings to develop knowledge and skills related to peer mentoring, student support, campus resources, outreach, and student well-being.
Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and timely records of student interactions and submit summary reports to support program tracking and follow-up.
Student Outreach and Engagement: Conduct outreach to students and participate in Student Success Center programs, events, and activities designed to promote student engagement, belonging, and academic success.

Undergraduate student with Junior or Senior standing
Availability to work at least 10 hours per week
Preferred minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Previous mentoring, tutoring, leadership, or customer service experience.
Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.90 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
Position Information:
Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal
Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.

Conditions of Employment
Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Driver's License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
