Job Summary:
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education and supports students who are first generation, from an income eligible background, and/or is a student with a disability.
A TRIO SSS Peer Mentor will provide support within the three main program goals: assisting students with successfully transitioning into and navigating college life, promoting academic success and persistence, and graduation. Additionally, mentors support the development of effective academic skills and habits, support continuous practice of goal setting and progress monitoring, and make intentional connections on campus to beneficial resources and/or organizations aligned with the mentee’s needs and pursuits. Finally, TRIO SSS Peer Mentors develop enduring & trusting relationships with mentees as a foundation for support.
This position reports to the TRIO SSS Senior Project Coordinator The work schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 9am to 4pm (typically), at the Lakewood Campus. May require hours outside of normal work schedule.
This is a student employee position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability.
This position is work-study eligible only. Applicants should have updated financial aid information, including a current FAFSA application and working actively with the financial aid department.

Required Qualifications:
For work study employment:
1. Must be an RRCC student and have been granted a work study award for the semester the student is seeking employment and maintain eligibility.
2. Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours.
Other Required Qualifications
1. Must have a commitment to equity and quality customer service and the ability to interact and communicate effectively in oral and written form with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
3. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint) and have advanced computer skills and experience with virtual meeting platforms (Zoom/Webex etc.).
4. Must be reliable, punctual and have a good work ethic.
5. Must be a self-starter with time-management skills and a strong attention to detail.
6. Ability to work from campus (Lakewood campus location) and be eligible for student employment.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
• Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
• This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
• The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
Selection Process:
The hourly pay for this position is $19.37 commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while an RRCC student, depending on need and budget availability. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
